Itanagar, Pasighat municipal council polls on May 29 21.4.2018 General News
The Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) today announced May 29 as the date for elections to Itanagar and Pasighat municipal councils. The schedule for panchayat polls, however, could not be finalised due to "technical reasons" related to the recent Arunachal Pradesh Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill 2018, which has called for changes in the structure of the Panchayat Raj system, State Election Commissioner Hage Kojeen said. There are at present 30 wards under the Itanagar Municipal Council with 64,799 electors, while the Pasighat Municipal Council has 12 wards with a total of 9,646 electors. The notification for the election would be issued on May 1, while the last date for filing of nominations has been fixed for May 8, Kojeen said. Scrutiny of papers would be done on May 10 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 14. Om Metals Infraprojects bags Rs 157 crore order from SJVN 16.4.2018 General News
Hydro-mechanical engineering firm Om Metals Infraprojects today said it has received order worth Rs 157 crore from public sector firm SJVN. "We have secured the letter of acceptance from SJVN Ltd for all hydro-mechanical works of Rs 157 crore. The order is for all hydro-mechanical works including pressure shaft steel liner of Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project of 900 MW located in Sankhuwasabha district in Nepal," a company statement said. Om Metal Infraprojects is engaged in diversified activities such as execution of turnkey hydro-mechanical and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contracts for hydropower and irrigation projects. In addition to overseas projects, the firm has bid for orders worth Rs 2,000 crore in the domestic market, according to Vikas Kothari, director and president, Om Metals. BHEL wins Rs 137 cr order for renovation at 16.4.2018 General News
Power equipment maker BHEL today said it has secured an order worth Rs 137 crore for renovation and modernisation of electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) at a thermal power station in Telangana. "Valued at Rs 137 crore, the turnkey order envisages carrying out renovation and modernisation of ESPs of three units of 200 MW each at Ramagundam Super Thermal Power Station (STPS), stage-I (3x200 MW) of NTPC," it said in a BSE filing. These ESPs have been in operation for more than 25 years. The PSU is already executing similar projects on turnkey basis for NTPC and state utilities including Gujarat State Electricity Corporation and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company.

TURA, April 12: The Meghalaya Power Generation Company Limited (MePGCL) has filed a police complaint against the alleged circulation of photos of poor construction of the upcoming Ganol Small Hydro Project which is coming up on the outskirts of the town of Tura. The complaint was filed by the executive engineer, AK Nandi, for the Ganol Civil Division No. 1 at the Chandmari Beat House.
The complaint comes in the wake of allegations of poor construction with photos circulating showing branches and twigs mixed with concrete in some sections of the dam wall.

SHILLONG, April 10: The state government is attempting to generate 1659.05 mega watts from as many as 15 power projects to meet the shortfall of power in Meghalaya and the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of most of these projects have been completed.
This was informed by State Power Minister, James Sangma in the Assembly on Tuesday. He also said that these include 10 hydro power projects, two thermal power projects and three new and renewable energy projects.

4 killed, 6 injured in Meghalaya accident 9.4.2018 General News
Four persons, including three women, were killed and six others were injured when the taxi they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Meghalayas Ri-Bhoi district today, police said. The accident took place at around 8 am at Mawpun village near Umroi on the Shillong By-pass, they said. "We have recovered the bodies of four persons from the accident site. Both the vehicles have been seized," a senior district police officer told PTI. The identities of the deceased are yet to be known, they said.
