Impact assessment of development in Gram Panchayats 6.8.2018 Govt of india: PIB
According to the inputs received from Ministry of Panchayati Raj, under the Fourteenth Finance Commission (FFC), grants to the tune of ? 2,00,292.20 crore for the period from 2015 to 2020 are being devolved to Gram Panchayats constituted under Part IX of the Constitution, amounting to an assistance of ?. 488 per capita per annum at an aggregate level for 26 States for delivering basic services such as water supply, sanitation, sewerage, solid waste management, storm water drainage, etc.     The Ministry of Panchayati Raj constituted Common Review Mission (CRM) in the year 2017 to assess the effectiveness of utilization of Fourteenth Finance Commission (FFC) grants by selected Gram Panchayats (GPs) in eight States viz. Assam, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh during 2017.

Not a drop to drink: NGO offers water to thirsty animals 25.5.2018 General News
With the mercury soaring to 46 degrees Celsius and water hard to find, an NGO has stepped in to quench the thirst of animals in two villages of Bundi district by replenishing ponds and other reserves with tank water. Summers in Bundi, about 235 km from the state capital of Jaipur, are marked by a scorching sun and temperatures touching 46 degrees Celsius and sometimes even beyond that. For the last week, water tankers are being sent daily to Chainpuriya and Devdungri villages in the area to fill up empty reserves and tanks meant for animals in and around the two villages, said Sanjeev Sankhala, head of the Help Suffering Lives Society (HSLS). HSLS decided to intervene after newspapers reported that cattle and other animals were dying of thirst in these areas, Sankhala said. He added that the service will continue till the monsoon rains arrive and there is sufficient water available. The NGO has also kept teams of veterinarians on standby so they can rush to the aid of sick animals ...

Concerned over depleting underground water levels, the Punjab Local Bodies department has decided to supply canal water for drinking purposes to Ludhiana, Amritsar and Patiala. Punjab Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said the need for immediate measures to check the rapid decline and deterioration of ground water has been realised by the state government. The state government has already initiated the process of switching to surface water (canal water) based water supply for three cities of Ludhiana, Amritsar and Patiala, an official release said.
