Shimla rape and murder case: Resign within 48 hours, BJP leader threatens Himachal CM 25.7.2017 DNA: Top News
Leader of the Opposition P K Dhumal on Monday asked Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to take moral responsibility of the alleged rape and murder of a girl and resign within 48 hours. Dhumal, who visited the victim's family in Kotkhai, warned that if Singh failed to quit, BJP workers led by women activists would stage dharnas at all 7,479 polling booths in the state to seek justice for the girl. "It is a very serious and sensitive issue, and should not be politicised. But, the manner in which the government handled it, the credibility of the police has been completely eroded. The government was forced to refer the case to the CBI," he said. "The CBI has, now, taken over the probe and the people should fearlessly provide credible evidence to the investigating agency," the former chief minister said. He alleged that the police had committed one mistake after the other and claimed that the "tardy" investigations had led to huge public outcry which the government had failed to contain. "The ...

Verdict a shocker, says Pandher's son 25.7.2017 DNA: Top News
Karan Pandher, son of Nithari killings convict Moninder Singh Pandher, who was sentenced to death on Monday, said the judgment has come as a shocker for the family. "The judgment has come as a shocker. There was hardly any evidence against him. Once again, he will be lodged in jail till the appeal is taken up by the High Court," said Karan, with tears in his eyes. Before the sentence was announced, Pandher's lawyer had argued that there was no evidence against his ailing client and that he had already spent eight long years in jail. Koli, at the same time, had said: "There is no evidence against me. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has framed me. I feel I have been denied justice." Special CBI Judge, Pawan Kumar Tiwari (anti-corruption), however, called it a "rarest of the rare" case and pronounced the sentence. Almost 11 years ago, on December 29, 2006, the police had discovered as many as 19 skeletons of children from Pandher's house in Nithari. "We have waited for 11 years for them to be ...

A CBI court on Monday sentenced businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surinder Koli to death for the murder and rape of a domestic help — one of the many victims of the 2005-06 Nithari serial killings. Special Judge Pawan Tiwari said that the convicts crossed all limits of cannibalism, a tendency not seen even in animals. Pandher and Koli were arrested in 2006 after the body parts of 19 minors and young women were found around Pandher's house near Nithari village in Noida, sending shockwaves across the country. The CBI could file chargesheets only in 16 cases of rape, murder, abduction and criminal conspiracy. Koli has got the death sentence in each of the eight cases decided so far. The rest eight cases are at different stages of trial. Monday's verdict is the second one involving both Pandher and Koli. The court had sentenced them to death in one of the cases in 2009. Pandher came out of prison in 2014 after he moved the Allahabad High Court. The Ghaziabad court on Monday mentioned the ...
