Huma Qureshi on MeToo campaign: It's not going to happen in Bollywood until senior actresses speak up 18.6.2018 DNA: Top News
Actor Huma Qureshi believes the #MeToo campaign worked in Hollywood because a lot of senior female actors came forward with their stories of sexual harassment, something which has not happened in the Hindi film industry. The campaign, which sparked off a movement in Hollywood late last year, top actors like Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, along with people from other walks of life shared their stories of sexual abuse. In contrast, only a handful of Bollywood stars have spoken about sexual harassment prevalent in the industry and that too without taking any names. Asked if it was disheartening that the movement never arrived in Bollywood, Qureshi told PTI, "It's not going to happen (in Bollywood) and the reason is, it worked in Hollywood because a lot of senior and respected actresses spoke about it. That's what really gives the #MeToo movement a lot of momentum. I really hope and pray it happens in India. But I feel we should not wait for this campaign to happen just in the film industry, ...

It was the half-naked girls running from room to room upon her arrival that made Filipina teenager Ruby fear the cyber cafe job she had been offered online might in fact be a sinister scam. Ruby's doubts turned to despair when her new employers - a husband and wife - dragged her in front of a computer and webcam and explained that her work would entail stripping and performing sex acts for paying customers across the globe. "It was like a bomb exploded," Ruby, now 21, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in an empty church in Tagaytay city in the Philippines. "I had seen cybersex dens in TV shows and movies, but I didn't know that they existed in real life." "I had been totally fooled," Ruby added. "I was forced to do things you could not imagine a 16-year-old having to endure." Ruby is not a rare case but one of a rising number of ever-younger victims of cybersex trafficking - a form of modern-day slavery where children are abused and raped over livestreams. The Philippines is seen by rights groups as ...
