Metro-2, 7 corridors to be linked 6.2.2016 Asian Age: Mumbai
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) have decided to integrate the Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor also known as Metro-2A and Andheri east-Dahisar east Metro-7 corridor at Dahisar to provide east-west connectivity in the western suburbs. The implementation of the 18.5 km long Metro-2 will be carried out by the DMRC whereas MMRDA is the implementing agency for the 16.5 km Metro-7 corridor. According to the initial plan, both the lines were to terminate at Dahisar. Metro-2 would terminate at the linking road in Dahisar (west) and the Metro-7 corridor at Western Express Highway in Dahisar (east). “Now, after studying the linking corridors, both the MMRDA and DMRC have come to a conclusion to link them both at Dahisar by constructing additional slabs of bridge to link both Metro-2 and Metro-7. As many as 262 acres of land, including 60 acres of private land, will be acquired for implementing the proposed 42-km of Light Rail Transit System (LRTS) in Bengaluru at a cost of Rs 10,875 crore. The LRTS, which is proposed to be implemented under public-private partnership, will have two corridors: JP Nagar-Hebbal corridor of 32 km (passing through Bannerghatta Road, Kanakapura Road, Mysuru Road, eastern boundary of Jnanabharati campus, Magadi Road, Peenya Industrial Area, BEL Circle, Lottegollahalli, Hebbal); Vijayanagar Tollgate-Tavarekere corridor of 10 km. Both the corridors will be elevated. "We have already identified the lands that have to be acquired. The major portion of it is government land. A detailed project report has been prepared. The project is now awaiting approval from the government. If approved, the bidding process will be taken up in two to three months. Mumbai airport will levy additional development fees of Rs 20 and Rs 120 respectively on all departing domestic and international passengers in order to fund the construction of two metro stations near the airport terminals. However, transport experts have opposed the move and one said he is planning to file a PIL over the issue. The additional development fee was approved and announced by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority in an order Friday. The additional levy will be applicable from April 1, 2016 and remain in force till March 31, 2021. The Mumbai International Airport limited had sought permission of Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) last year, to charge additional development fee in order to fund the metro rail project.
