While there is no shortage of enthusiasm in BMTC to connect Metro with feeder services, the operation is hurting the corporation which now fears a loss of Rs 16 crore. "There were 85 buses in the feeder service which cost us Rs 2.5 crore between October 2016 and March 2017. We have deployed 120 additional buses after Namma Metro's entire Phase 1 became operational last week. The projected loss by the operation of 200 buses is about Rs 16 crore," said Ekroop Caur, managing director, BMTC. Stating that BMTC was eager to bridge the last-mile connectivity, the managing director, however, noted that the corporation can't afford making losses. "Feeder service is a good idea. It will decongest roads by encouraging people to leave their vehicles behind. If we stabilise and break-even, we won't need any help. But till then, we can't suffer losses," she said. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has called tenders for tests for the proposed Metro to airport though the detailed project report is yet to be finished. Backed by the feasibility study, Metro officials have decided not to lose time in waiting for DPR and be ready with all the required test reports when time comes. The two separate tenders include a range of surveys from topography and soil testing land and property survey, including alignment. While the bidding process will take about a month, the BMRCL has set a deadline of six months for both successful bidders to submit the final reports. The state government finalised the route to the airport over a month ago. Accordingly, the line will begin from Nagawara and continue on Thanisandra Road before turning left near RK Hegde Nagar. The Metro line will meet the Airport Road (NH 44) near Gandhi Krishi Vijnan Kendra and run along the highway flyover till the trumpet flyover where it will turn right to reach airport. Bengaluru-based solar energy firm Cleanmax Solar, which reported to have a 23 per cent market share in roof top solar space, is planning to double its roof top installation to 100 MW with an investment of around Rs 500 crore. The company is in talks with various investors including private equity firms to raise funds."Last year in roof top solar, we did around 45 MW projects. In the current fiscal year we are looking at something upwards of 100 MW in rooftop. The utility projects to corporate customers saw an installation of around 65 MW last year and we are planning to have 150 MW during this year," said Andrew Hines, co-founder, CleanMax Solar.The investment would be approximately Rs 5 crore per megawatt as project cost and it would require roughly Rs 500 crore for the roof top projects this year.
