Taking the aero-modelling route to accomplish that task, Happy Landings India (HLI) now has an entirely unique flight plan. Showing off their chuck gliders and catapult-based aircraft models at the Metro Rangoli Art Center here, the Happy Landings team were on a mission: To beckon youngsters to the soaring heights of aerodynamics, letting them into a world of physics, materials and aircraft structures. Founded in October 2015 by Leo Peter Charles and Pradeep Vijay, HLI has so far trained over 3,000 students through tie-ups with the Air Force Technical College and private engineering colleges. Trained teams had also participated in the SAE Aero Design competition in the United States. The bidding process for the Dahisar-Mira Road-Bhayandar (Metro 10) line is likely to commence later this year so as to coincide with Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) elections to be held in August. If tenders are invited in the next few months, construction can start either by year-end or early 2018 by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Presently, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is working on the feasibility and detailed project report for Metro 10. The report will likely be submitted in a month or by April-end. "Once we get DMRC's report, we may approve it in the next authority meeting. Thereafter, it may be presented before the state cabinet for approval," said UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) that started its rainwater harvesting (RWH) project on Namma Metro Phase 1 will extend its project to Phase 2 also. Chief public relations officer of BMRCL U A Vasanth Rao said that at present, the RWH system is in place along the 33.48 km of elevated Metro stretch where two RWH pits are built between two pillars, for every 28 metres. BMRCL said that each pillar has inbuilt downpipes to collect rainwater from the viaduct and into the underground tanks on the median. "When these tanks get filled, the overflowing rainwater gets diverted towards the 5-metre deep harvesting pits located between the two pillars," Rao said. He said that under the second phase, around 72 km of elevated stretch will come up. "We have plans to instal RWH system along a 58 km stretch," Rao said.
