Two-wheelers, rickshaws to get free on-street parking: AMC 17.8.2018 DNA: Urban Tales
It seems that the Ahmedabad civic body is promoting usage of two-wheelers by allotting their owners space to park their vehicles free of cost on the street. The standing committee chairman Amul Bhatt, on Thursday, announced that two-wheeler and autorickshaw owners will not be charged. "The standing committee has decided to allow on-street parking. There will be three categories of on-street parking and charges accordingly. There will be A,B and C category roads for the parking space. However, charges will be levied from the cars only," said Amul Bhatt, chairman, a standing committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). "Two-wheelers and autorickshaw will be exempted from the parking charges while parking on-street allotted parking space," added Bhatt. The three categories will be decided as per the heritage, commercial and usage value of the road. There will be the same rate for all the parking space. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in its demolition drive on Saturday freed a space of 1,392 square meters from encroachment by demolishing 27 illegally constructed units and 31 temporary sheds starting from Prabhat Chowk crossroads to Ratna Park bus stand in the new west zone. In the central zone, 40 temporary sheds and around 247 encroachments were demolished thereby freeing 2,500 sq mt of public space. Across the city, a total of 2,091 encroachments were removed on Saturday alone. The civic body has lifted 56 laris, 17 stalls and 2,018 miscellaneous goods from the model roads. The rigorous implementation of the demolition drives comes after the Gujarat high court slammed the civic body over the traffic woes the citizen undergoes due to encroachments. Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Monday asked state's food regulator to release the data which suggests that if edible oil is used multiple times can cause cancer. The state government had recently mandated that beyond a certain extent edible oil cannot be reused for cooking or else it is harmful to human health and can cause even cancer. CAIT wants the government to review its decision on merits and scientific analysis. As per the norms of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), edible oil if reused multiple times to cook food is harmful to the consumer. Cooking in same oil multiple times would increase the content of Total Polarized Compound (TPC) to exceed the permissible limit of 25%. Gujarat is conducting a pilot study to execute the provision. However, in a letter to Food and Drugs Control Authority (FDCA) of Gujarat, CAIT has demanded from the findings of any scientific study that proves that TPC beyond 25% has causes cancer.
