As work on metro cuts into the only main road connecting Whitefield, residents are seeing suburban trains as a way out and said traffic and pollution will be a major poll planks in the upcoming elections. Members of Whitefield Rising, a group of active residents, met senior railway officials in the Bengaluru division seeking suburban trains. They submitted a memorandum to the divisional railway manager along with a copy of previous ones given over the last four years. Metro, BMTC fares likely to be reduced on Traffic-less Day 13.12.2017 Deccan Herald - City
Fares of Namma Metro and city buses in Bengaluru, including Volvo buses, are likely to be reduced on second Sundays starting from February when the government will initiate its Traffic-less Day programme to check population. Transport Minister H M Revanna said the decision was taken to encourage public transport and regulate private vehicles. "Fares of tickets and daily passes of the BMTC buses as well as Namma Metro fares will be cut on second Sundays. Encouraging the public transport is the best way to check pollution in the city," he said. The minister, who spoke about the plan for the third time in two weeks, said discussions were going on with officials on the reduction in fares. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Banks (AIIB) Board of Directors has approved a $335 million (Rs 2,159 crore) loan for a 100% electric metro project that will reduce traffic and pollution and increase employment and mobility in India. The investment in the Bangalore Metro Rail Project-Reach 6 (R6) is AIIBs first metro project and its first joint financing partnership with the European Investment Bank (EIB). EIB is the projects lead financier with Euro 500 million in funding. In May 2016, AIIB and EIB signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a framework of cooperation to conduct regular dialogues and explore joint infrastructure project financing. The Bangalore Metro Rail Project-R6 is the first project resulting from that framework.
