No need to fear about totalitarian rule in Nepal: prez 21.5.2018 General News
Nepal's first Leftist majority government has expressed commitment to the principles of democracy and dispelled fears about a totalitarian system after the formation of an all-Communist regime. The two largest Communist parties - CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre - merged last week to form the Nepal Communist Party, that has a nearly two-third majority in Parliament. The new government is fully committed to the principles of basic democratic values so there is no fear of introducing a totalitarian system by abolishing democratic system, said President Bidya Devi Bhandari reading out the government's policy document in Parliament. Presenting the government's policies and programmes for 2018-19 Bhandari said, "Nepal government will adopt a good neighbour policy and will introduce regulations to attract foreign investments in the country". She said the government will try to integrate the Nepalese economy into the world economy and convert Nepal to a middle income country within the next 10 .

Himachal Pradesh is planning to set up a power sale control room to monitor real time electricity generation and revenue of the state government. Himachal Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (MPP and Power) Tarun Kapoor today directed Director Energy to set up the control room. Reviewing the progress of power generation, he said that it would be appropriate that monitoring of all projects, including up to 5 MW Projects be carried out by one agency, the Directorate of Energy and the monitoring of all HEPs (hydro electricity projects) be web based. For capacity building of the office of Directorate of Energy regarding power sale, monitoring, safety authority and quality and social environment aspects, a proposal will be prepared and accordingly the best firms in the field will be contacted for this purpose, he said, adding that an MoU will be signed with the world leader in power sector. The day temperatures in most parts of Himachal Pradesh rose marginally today with Una in the Shiwalik foothills registering a maximum temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius. After a row erupted over a question on bad omens in a recruitment examination held by Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) , Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said today the examiner who set the question paper had been debarred from all future assignments. The HSSC has also withdrawn the question, he said. Khattar said the question asked in the written examination was not appropriate. Speaking to reporters, Khattar said he would talk to representatives of the Brahmin community tomorrow on the issue. Members of the Brahmin community have held protests state over the issue. Khattar said the HSSC chairperson had informed him that the examiner had been debarred by the Commission . Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena left on a two-day visit to Iran today to improve trade relations and secure investment from the Islamic republic, his office said.
