Telangana will extend full support to KTK for conduct of free 26.4.2018 General News
The Telangana government would extend full cooperation and support to the Karnataka government in the successful conduct of free and fair polls in that state on May 12, a senior official said today. Telangana Chief Secretary S K Joshi informed his Karnataka counterpart about this during a video conference, according to an official release. Joshi said 800 police personnel from Telangana would be deputed to Karnataka state as per the request of the state government. Increased vigil across the borders including strengthening of the check posts would be taken up by the state government in view of the polls in Karnataka, he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid floral tributes at the bust of 12th century Lingayat philosopher and social reformer Basaveshwara at Albert Embankment Gardens on the banks of the river Thames. The event was organised by The Basaveshwara Foundation, a non-profit organisation-based in the UK that has installed the statue of Basaveshwara. This comes in the backdrop of Karnataka Cabinet recommending to the Centre grant of religious minority status for Lingayat and Veerashaiva Lingayat community. Dindi project in Telangana named after Vidyasagar Rao 14.4.2018 General News
The Telangana government today decided to name Dindi Lift Irrigation scheme in Nalgonda district after late irrigation expert R Vidyasagar Rao. The state government has instructed the Irrigation department to call the project henceforth as R Vidyasagar Rao Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, a release from the Chief Minister's office said. "Vidyasagar Rao had highlighted the injustices done to Telangana in the irrigation sector. His life's ambition was to provide safe drinking water to the fluoride-affected Nalgonda district and provide water to the arid lands in the Telangana region," it said. "We are making rapid strides in the irrigation sector in tune with the dreams of Vidyasagar Rao," the release added. It is befitting that the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme in his native Nalgonda district is named after him, the release quoted ChiefMinister K Chandrasekhar Rao as saying.

First regional conference of eastern states on Water Resources 13.4.2018 General News
The first regional conference of eastern states on Water Resources will be held in the city on April 16 to address the outstanding water issues of these states. The conference will deliberate on finding a solution to mitigate intra and intra-basin issues relating to water resources in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal, official sources said. SC junks plea to nationalise rivers 9.4.2018 General News
The Supreme Court today junked a plea seeking nationalisation of all the rivers and dams in the country and handing over their operation and control to the Centre. A bench of Chief Justice Diak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud dismissed the plea, saying it cannot nationalise all the rivers and order interlinking of rivers just because some states are fighting over it. The plea seeking nationalisation of all the rivers and water resources had been made to the apex court by Tamil Nadu Centre For Public Interest Litigation. "Direct the state and the Union Territories where all water resources like rivers, dams administrative operation, control and maintaining be done by Union of India and not by the state governments," the plea said.

India to adopt global norms for highway construction calculations 3.4.2018 General News
India will adopt global norms for calculating highways construction from this fiscal after hitting a record 26.92 km road building per day in FY2017-18, which as per international standards is 94.18 lane km, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said today. A record 9,829 km of highways were constructed in 2017-18 which comes to 26.92 km of roads per day while the road awards stood at 17,055 km in the just concluded fiscal, thus witnessing about two-folds and five-folds increase in construction and awards of roads respectively. "We are adopting international norms for highways construction from this fiscal. The ministry has so far been calculating construction of National Highways in linear length, which means there is no difference between 1 km of 2-lane with paved shoulders and 1 km with 6-lanes and service roads," Road Transport, Highways, Shipping, Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Gadkari told reporters here. Police bust gang of turtle smugglers 30.3.2018 General News
Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force on Friday busted an international gang of turtle smugglers and arrested one person from Kanpur.The police have also recovered 27 kg of dried turtle calipee from the accused, identified as Mohammad Salim Sheikh, who hails from West Bengal.The species of turtle calipee that has been recovered from Salim is found around the Ganga, Gomti, Ghaghra and Gandak rivers, read an official note.The accused was taken into custody from Kanpur railway station.During interrogation, Salim had revealed that he was a part of an international gang of turtle smuggling, it added.
