The ED has attached assets worth over Rs 148 crore in connection with its money laundering probe in cases related to YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy and others, the agency said.

"ED attaches land worth Rs 148.89 crore in Andhra Pradesh under PMLA of companies of Nimmagadda Prasad in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy case," the agency said.

A provisional attachment order under the PMLA law has been issued, a senior official said.

The ED began its probe against the politician and his associates on the basis of a CBI FIR that stated that since "May 2004, Jagan floated number of companies wherein quid pro quo investments have been made by beneficiaries from decisions of the state government in various forms like SEZs (special economic zones), irrigation contracts, relaxation/permission for real estate ventures, mines among others."

BS ReporterHyderabad, 14 June: Notwithstanding the surplus capacity in south India, two South Indian cement manufacturing companies have proposed to set up new plants in Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu-based Cettinad Cement Corporation Private Limited and KCP Limited have proposed to invest Rs 1350 crore and Rs 531 crore respectively to establish their new units in the state. The state investment promotion board headed by Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has cleared 6 investment proposals, including these two, with a total investment commitment of Rs 3,303 crore.According to the government, Chettinad will set up a cement grinding unit in 75 acres and a manufacturing plant in 1000 acres of land in Vizag and Guntur districts respectively. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is planning to spend around Rs 60,000 crore on land acquisition this year for various highway projects in the pipeline. For any infrastructure project -- be it roads, railways, logistics park, recreation zones, special economic zones, industrial parks -- land acquisition is the biggest challenge. Several road or highway projects are stuck or delayed due to land acquisition related issues, which has been among the top reasons for the delay in completing such projects. "As you are aware that since 2014, when the land acquisition law came into force, prices of land shot up substantially. This year itself we are spending Rs 60,000 crore on land acquisition," said Nitin Gadkari.
