Govt takes steps to improve ease of doing business 24.10.2014 deccanherald.com
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to make India a better place to carry out investments, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) under the Commerce Ministry has taken up a series of measures to improve the business climate in the country. This will reduce the time taken in conducting business and corruption such as bribery," an official said, elaborating on steps by the DIPP. A checklist with specific time-lines has been developed for processing all applications filed by foreign investors in cases relating to retail businesses. The clearances will be given on-line. To simplify and reform the complex web of ...

Finnish-ed? Or, will Nokia reconnect afresh? 20.10.2014 Deccan Herald - Supplements
It was a shortlived blip on India's manufacturing radar as Nokia's Chennai operations in exurban Sriperumbudur went dormant earlier this month. Cheers have turned into tears in less than a decade for more than 8,000 people, mostly youngsters of Tamil Nadu, who were in recent years hired by the world's second largest mobile phone maker Nokia Corporation. The suspension, largely attributed to unknown reasons, has in effect been interpreted as a closure.
