KHADC to seek protection from environmental refugees 21.11.2018 Meghalaya Times

SHILLONG, Nov 21: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will soon apprise the Centre of the need to protect Meghalaya and its people from what the Council  has termed as ‘environmental refugees’.
Replying to a motion moved by Independent Nongskhen MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri during the ongoing winter session, KHADC chief HS Shylla said, “Erecting of fencing should be from zero line and the government should respect by obtaining the NOC from the Council.”

SHILLONG, Nov 20: Seeking the re – transfer of Block I and II to Meghalaya, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) passed an official resolution towards this end here on the first day of its winter session which began here on Tuesday.
“Now this House does unanimously resolve to urge the government of India, government of Meghalaya, the government of Assam and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to right this historical and legal wrong committed against the Khasi-Jaintia tribe and to return back Block I and II to the state of Meghalaya as is right under law and the Constitution of India,” the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC, HS Shylla said while tabling the resolution during the session.

“From numerous surveys it was founded that many tribal lands were illegally and secretly transferred to non tribals with the help of various people who acted as middlemen.
