Draft TB control plan targets fewer cases, seeks 4 times more funding 23.3.2017 All News-IANS Stories
A radical draft National Strategic Plan (NSP) for Elimination of TB that proposes to bring down new infections by nearly 80 per cent over the next eight years says India must expand the programme to the private sector, offer direct benefits transfer to patients, improve surveillance and monitoring of patients, and increase funding for the existing TB control programme.

College students construct check dam, soak pits to end water woes in Jawhar village 23.3.2017 DNA: Wide Angle
With an aim to provide water facilities to Jawhar village in Palghar district, the students from the NSS unit of KPB Hinduja College constructed a check dam and soak pit for the villagers. The college students adopted the village few years back to provide basic facilities to the tribals residing in the village. In their last visit, the students constructed one check dam and five soak pits to save water so that the villagers can use it in their routine and agricultural activities. Speaking about the project, Saira Banoo Shaikh, Coordinator, NSS, Hinduja college said, "Thirty seven student volunteers from the NSS unit set up a week-long resident camp at the village to construct the check dam and soak pits. Since it is a hilly area, storage of water for later usage is problematic. The check dam, which is three feet in height and 20 feet in length, has been constructed to help over 25 families residing in the village."
