SHILLONG, Aug 17: Emerging from a meeting held to discuss the non – fulfillment of the Instrument of Accession (IOA) and Annexed Agreement (AA), the tribal chieftains of Meghalaya have resolved to seek the intervention of the United Nations Organization (UNO) on this vexed issue.
With the non – fulfillment of the IOA and AA even with the passing of 69 years since they were signed between the Centre and 25 Khasi States in August 17, 1948, the tribal chieftains under the baner of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya (GCCM) have also resolved to demand clarity on the stance of the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of the state on the issue.

Manipur civil rights activist Irom Sharmila married her long-time partner Desmond Coutinho, a British national, under the Special Marriage Act at the Sub-Registrars office here this morning. The wedding was held in the presence of Sub-Registrar Radhakrishnan with Coutinho putting the ring on Sharmilas finger. It was a simple function and the families of the bride and groom were absent.
