SHILLONG, Nov 18: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has promised to assist the coal miners of Meghalaya to resume their mining activities through financial assistance to purchase the machinery required for the same.
Stating that the problem that the coal miners of Meghalaya emanates from the fact that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) wants coal mining to be carried out in a scientific way here, the LJP said that this will require the miners to procure machinery which they are not able to out of their own accord.

Bengaluru: In view of continued shortage in supply of coal, the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) on Saturday alerted the government that it is downgrading its power supply by 500 MW per day with immediate effect. This resulted in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convening an emergency high-level meeting, where Energy Minister D K Shivakumar conceded that additional purchase of power had become inevitable to avoid load shedding. Citing that the power purchase might burden the exchequer further, he pointed out that the outages would dent the ruling partys prospects during the 2018 Assembly polls. KPCL managing director Kumar Naik told DH that Karnataka continues to reel under coal crisis as both the Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) and Singareni Colleries Company Ltd had failed to meet the commitment made earlier this year. Railway minister Piyush Goel on Friday waived off haulage charges on all royal trains, including the Palace of Wheels. The move came during  chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s meeting with the minister in New Delhi. The decision will lower the operative cost  and the fare and directly benefit the passengers.
