TURA, Apr 21: Parts of West Garo Hills, mainly close to the plain belt of the district was hit by a cyclonic storm on Friday evening leading to damage to houses while trees and towers were also uprooted.
The district has been seeing periodic squalls over the past month, most of which have been followed by very strong winds. However Friday’s cyclonic storm has been the most damaging this year with many ‘kutcha’ houses being blown off.

Substation operator shot dead 21.4.2018 General News
A substation operator was shot dead by unidentified persons in Dhoom Manikpur village here, the police said today. Another substation officer alleged that he was threatened by unidentified men over phone for switching on the power supply and stopping outages in the area. Satveer Tomar, working at the Dhoom Manikpur substation, had shut off the power supply due to strong winds last night to prevent electrocution. Some persons reached the substation and ordered him to switch on the power supply, the police said. When the victim refused, he was shot at by them. He was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment, they said. DSP Anil Kumar said the accused has been identified as Neetu Gujjar. Gujjar has been booked under the National Security Act, he said, adding efforts are on to trace him. SBI to save Rs 30 cr p.a. from wind, solar power investments 21.4.2018 General News
Country's largest lender SBI today said it has saved Rs 125 crore in the last eight years by putting up 10 windmills, and expects to save Rs 30 crore annually through its renewable energy investments. The bank has installed 10 windmills having a capacity of 1.5 MW each, including six in Maharashtra, three in Tamil Nadu and one in Gujarat since 2010 and saved over Rs 125 crore in energy costs, an official statement said. It has also invested in solar power and now possesses a capacity of 21.23 MW in renewable power sources, it said, adding that taking it to 25 MW will help it save Rs 30 crore every year. It, however, did not specify the time by which it aims to take up the capacity to 25 MW or any details of the investments on such initiatives. After the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) issued an advisory that the Agni Theertham Sea is likely to experience high-energy swell waves, the devotees were stopped from taking holy dip in the sea by the police on Saturday.According to INCOIS, the rise in the waves will be seen from April 21, 8:30 a.m. to April 22, 11:30 p.m."After the advice of police administration, we have stopped our work. Solar power generation capacity at Charanka Solar Park in Patan district, the first such project in the country, is soon expected to touch 790 MW. The generation capacity is at about 600 MW at present. The Charanka Solar Park was inaugurated in 2012 by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. It was home to about 250 MW capacity at the time, which has gone up by nearly 2.5 times since then. "Installed capacity of 600 MW solar power has been commissioned by 31 developers in the Solar Park. GACL (Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited) is setting up 30 MW Solar PV plant, and GSFC (Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals) is in the process of setting up 10 MW project.  Sebi today slapped a fine of more than Rs 1 crore on wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy for violating insider trading norms. A total fine of Rs 1.1 crore, including Rs 5 lakh on an official, has been imposed as the company failed to disclose price sensitive information as required under the listing regulations on "more than one occasion". "I find that the investigation did not bring out the disproportionate gain or unfair advantages to the notices and loss caused to investors as a result of non-disclosure of truncation of order. "They failed to make the disclosure on more than one occasion, hence it can be said, it is repetitive in nature," Sebi's Adjudicating Officer Sahil Malik said in the order. The noticees in the case were Suzlon Energy, its promoters Tulsi R Tanti and Girish R Tanti, and Hemal A Kanuga. Tulsi Tanti is Chairman and Managing Director while Girish Tanti is a Director.
