Russia cuts off gas to Ukraine, Kiev says it has enough reserves till December 16.6.2014 DNA: Top News
Ukraine's energy minister said Russia had cut off all gas supplies to Kiev on Monday, but he guaranteed reliable gas flows would continue to Russia's European clients who get imports through pipelines via Ukraine. "We have an announcement to make today – that gas supplies to Ukraine have been reduced to zero," Energy Minister Yuri Prodan told a news briefing. With the supply being cut off, Ukraine has almost 14 billion cubic metres of gas in underground storage, enough to meet its needs until December, the chief executive of state gas company Naftogaz said on Monday. This should cushion the European Union (EU) from any knock-on reduction in gas supplies shipped to the EU through Ukraine Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk, sitting beside Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev at a news briefing, blamed the breakdown of talks in a gas pricing dispute on Russia, saying Moscow had hoped to cause Kiev problems in winter. "But it is not about gas. Greenpeace: Of convenient lies and inconvenient truth? 16.6.2014 Rediff: Columns
'Greenpeace has been brutal in targeting both India and the Manmohan Singh government. The push to go after Indian coal is driven by its long-term agenda. What is surprising is that China has not been meted out the same treatment, despite the fact that the rise of China as an economic power has been built around generating power from coal.

Investor interest surges in India's power sector 15.6.2014 Deccan Herald - Supplements
The new bidding norms appeared to have revived investor interest in the power sector. A case in point is the Kerala government, which had invited bids for supplying 450 MW of power for which 23 major power firms — the whos who among Indian power producers — prequalified for the bid. Experts in the sector ascribed the development partly to the new bidding norms which have been implemented and partly to the cleaning up of the books of state electricity boards(SEBs). They said that SEBs have lowered the risk of electricity generating players while the latter has enabled SEBs to resume power purchases. The list of 23 firms available on the website of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) who have qualified for the bid includes Adani Power, Adhunik Power and Natural Resources, Bharat Aluminium, DB Power Essar Power and East Coast Energy. | Among others are GMR Kamalanga Energy, Ideal Energy Project, IndiaBulls Power JP Power Ventures, Jindal Power, KSSK Energy Ventures, and Lanco Power.
