Taking on Rahul Gandhi for his stand on Kathua rape case, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar today invited the Congress president for a debate on child safety and what Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has done to protect children in Karnataka. "Next time Gandhi takes time off from his pre-election temple-run in Karnataka, I would invite him to a civilized debate on child safety in Karnataka and discuss what Siddaramaiah has really done to protect children in Karnataka," he said in a statement here. Ever since February 2014, Chandrasekhar said he has been urging Siddaramaiah to act on child safety issues to put in place safety guidelines, regulations for schools and have more child courts. Thirteen girls, who were victims of trafficking and rescued from flesh trade in New Delhi, have been trained in unarmed security guard job role, the National Skill Development Corporation announced today. The girls had been undergoing the short-term skill training programme as part of a special project, under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMVKY), it said. Seven persons arrested in child trafficking case 28.3.2018 General News
Seven persons have been arrested in connection with a child trafficking case, police said today. Police had yesterday rescued a 15-day-old baby girl, who was about to be sold and had arrested a 23-year-old woman identified as Manga, they said. Based on information provided by her, police today arrested six more persons from different locations including the prime accused Gangadhar Reddy (32), a native of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Deputy commissioner of police (Shamshabad Zone) PV Padmaja said. Reddy faces similar cases in different police stations in Hyderabad on charges of being involved in baby selling rackets, the DCP said. He had allegedly sold 12 babies out of which two babies have been rescued, the officer said. "Reddy had earlier worked in infertility centres and formed a gang and hatched a conspiracy to sell babies to childless couples," Padmaja said. 4 minor girls missing for 6 days in Arunachal 27.3.2018 General News
In a suspected child trafficking case, four minor girls from Wakro area of Lohit district were missing for the past six days, police said today. It was not yet clear whether they had been together when they had gone missing on March 21 evening. Their family members feared that the girls in the age group of 12 to 16 could be victims of human trafficking, police said. A case has been registered at Tezu police station under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping) and 367 (kidnapping to subject person to grievous hurt, slavery) and investigation was lodged. "We request the investigating team to probe every possible angle in their effort to trace out the whereabouts of the missing girls to ensure their safe return to their respective homes," the Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM), a prominent social organization of the Mishmi community, said in a statement.

Bengal initiates steps to curb growing crime against children 25.3.2018 General News
The West Bengal government as well as some NGOs have started taking steps to combat the upward trend in crimes against children in the state. The latest National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) said that West Bengal had registered 7004 crimes against children in 2016, the 5th highest number in the country. Uttar Pradesh is on the top of the list with 15 per cent followed by Maharashtra (14 pc), Madhya Pradesh (13 pc), Delhi (8 pc) and West Bengal (6 pc). Nearly 20 crimes are committed against children every day in the state. West Bengal shows upward trend in crimes related to kidnapping, child trafficking and sexual offences against children, and these consist of over 90 per cent of crimes against children in the state. The state accounted for 7004 recorded crimes against children of which 4178 crimes were registered under kidnapping and human trafficking from neighbouring countries. Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi here today said that more active cooperation is needed among international organisations such as UNICEF, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for arresting child trafficking. Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a gang trafficking minor girls with the arrest of four persons and rescued three underage girls. A 14-year-old girl had been reported missing yesterday from Geeta Colony area in Shahdara. Efforts were on to locate the girl after registering a case, said Nupur Prasad, DCP(Shahdara). Acting on human and technical intelligence, police managed to rescue the girl from Palla village in Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh within 24 hours, she said. The girl was produced before a child welfare committee and her statement was recorded. It was found that she was sold for Rs 4 lakh to 32-year-old Neeraj. In the case registered earlier, other relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act were added, she said. Neeraj was arrested and grilled by police.
