Anti-trafficking units will now be roped in to look for children who have gone missing and have remained untraceable for over four months. The investigating officers in a district will have to hand over the investigation of the missing child to the anti-trafficking units. These units, formed to help tackle syndicates under the anti-trafficking bill, will send reports of the case to the district legal services authority every three months. If the investigation leads to an organised set-up, then a specialised team will take over the investigation, which will be headed by a Station House Officer (SHO). If the child is found, a physical check-up will be done to ascertain if the child has faced any form of physical harm. The move comes as part of a set of standard operating procedures (SOP), released Thursday, by the Women and Child Development ministry to trace missing children, and for the rehabilitation of missing children who have been found. The Cabinet on Friday approved the ratification of two conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) - the Minimum Age Convention, 1973, and the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999.  In a meeting held late Friday evening, the Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the ratification. Of the ILO’s 187 members, 168 countries have ratified the Minimum Age Convention, 1973, (no 138 of ILO). Over 180 members had ratified the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999, (no 182 of ILO) by 2015. India has so far ratified 45 conventions, of which 42 are in force. Among them four are fundamental or core conventions.  Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, who has been working to get India to ratify the conventions since 1998, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for his efforts.
