The Delhi High Court today criticised the Centre's National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) for converting the city into "one big traffic zone", instead of de-congesting it. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar said that instead of building more housing space, flyovers and underpasses in the national capital, the NCRPB should focus on moving the congestion, especially industries, out of Delhi to its peripheries. "Your plans only talk of improving vehicular movement by building flyovers and underpasses. What is the need for building eight-storey residential areas where two-storey structures existed? You have to move industries out of Delhi. "But you are converting Delhi into one big traffic zone. Where is the de-congestion? There is nothing in your plans with regard to developing infrastructure beyond borders of Delhi," the court said, and asked the NCRPB to examine these issues and place a report before the bench. Low-lying areas of Pune are on alert after the irrigation department released water into Mutha river at the rate of 18,491 cusecs even as the catchment areas of the dams providing water to Pune witnessed continuous rain on Monday. The riverside roads and low-lying Baba Bhide bridge have been already submerged due to the rains. The civic administration has now issued an alert to those living in these areas.   Pune city and adjoining areas have witnessed continuous rain since Saturday night, which resulted in increasing the water level in the four dams Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar. In fact, on Monday, the Khadakwasla dam filled to its capacity and the irrigation department had to release the water at the rate of 3,500 cusecs in the morning. However, as the downpour continued throughout the day, the water release had to be increased at the rate of 18,000 cusecs in the evening. Darbhanga/Patna, July 14 (IANS): An innovative cost-effective drinking water project in Bihar promises to lower the price of one-litre bottle to 50 paise -- cheapest in the world.
The project -- Sulabh Jal -- was launched on Saturday in Darbhanga by Sulabh International. It will convert contaminated pond water into safe drinking water.
