The Delhi Police will support the campaign through its Road Safety Cell and Women Safety Cell, while all medical assistance will be provided by St Stephen's Hospital. The Indian Railways will soon become more environment friendly and will cut down its dependence on conventional fuel such as diesel by further track electrification, said Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday. He was speaking after releasing the 2016-17 annual report on 'Environment sustainability of the Railways', on the occasion of World Environment Day. The Minister also released a new water policy to ensure efficient use of water by the Railways. "Reducing dependence on conventional fuel is our priority for environment conservation and we are targeting electrification of the railway tracks so that the use of diesel may get nominal," said Prabhu adding that track electrification will reduce emissions by a significant extent. The Minister also said that the Railways has created a separate environment directorate and is working with the United Nations Environment Programme. LED bulbs a must for new buildings in Maharashtra 31.5.2017 DNA: India
In a major move to conserve electricity using energy-efficient technology, Maharashtra government has mandated that all upcoming buildings in the state, be it a residential, commercial or industrial, will have to be fitted with energy-saver LED bulbs only. To ensure the compliance, a clause will be added in the Development Control Rules (DCR) of municipal corporations and other civic bodies. This means no tungston bulbs or tubelights will be allowed in any new establishments henceforth in Maharashtra. The rules defined as "Energy Conervation Building Code" are part of the "Energy Conversation policy 2016" of the government approved by the Cabinet on Tuesday. "Green buildings" will be offered incentives in taxes or in the form of FSI. Inclusion of the said clause in the DCR effectively means the compliance of norms would be must to get the occupation certificate, says an official.
