The Maharashtra government will soon take a decision on conversion of Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) initially proposed on 2,140 hectare into integrated industrial area (IIA) due to lack of any development since 2006 due to procedural and tax-related issues. The government thereby will allow 85% of the land by the Navi Mumbai SEZ CO (NMSEZC) as IIA and balance 15% for the residential purpose as per the original contract. Dronagiri Infrastructure, promoted by Reliance Group Tradecom LLP, along with Jai Corp and SKIL, holds 74% in NMSEZC while the 26% is held by the state run City & Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco). After conversion, Cidco will continue to hold 26% equity, and it will initially get 5% revenue share and later 7.5%. Cidco is exploring an option of imposing additional lease premium penalty worth Rs 1,000 crore and liquidated damages worth Rs 470 crore for the NMSEZC's failure to achieve various milestones and complete the project. Govt starts process to take away Rewas port from RIL 18.10.2017 DNA: Money
Reliance Industries may soon have give up land to develop proposed port at Rewas near Mumbai. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) has floated a tender to ascertain the value of the port near Mumbai so that the government can take over the port project from RIL. RIL has planned the port near its proposed special economic zone in Raigad, but scrapped the SEZ, putting the port plan in limbo. "MMB is seeking services from qualified financial consultants to assist them in undertaking a valuation exercise of identified assets either created or acquired including land bank of Rewas Ports and prepare a report accordingly," said an MMB official. At present, RIL arm Reliance Logistics & Ports holds a 55% stake in Rewas Ports Ltd, a special purpose vehicle that was created for development, operation and management of the proposed port. The High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to Stamp Duty Superintendent of Gujarat asking why the state government has not recovered stamp duty for the land allotted for the Mundra Special Economic Zone (SEZ) between 2005 and 2017. The first division bench of chief justice R Subhash Reddy and justice Vipul Pancholi issued the notice while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) by Sanjay Bapat, who has alleged that the state exchequer incurred a minimum loss of Rs1,400 crore because of government’s inaction. The reply has to filed before November 8.  The petitioner’s advocates, Jamini Patel and Sanjivkumar Patel, submitted he represented the issue before the Kutch district collector in 2016. The collector had issued a notice to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd., asking it to pay the stamp duty. However, it was not followed up, the petition stated.
