Bengaluru: Denotification cases: 2 ex-CMs approach HC 21.9.2019
Bengaluru: Two former chief ministers, Siddaramaiah and H.D. Kumaraswamy, approached the Karnataka High Court, seeking to quash two separate denotification cases filed against them. In the first, Mr Siddaramaiah, during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister in 1997, had allegedly purchased 10 guntas of land in the midst of Vijayanagar 2nd Stage Layout developed by MUDA through indirect denotification, built a house and sold it in 2003. RTI activist Gangaraju filed the complaint. Following the lower court's order, the Lakshmipuram police had filed an FIR under various IPC sections. A lower court had directed Mr Siddaramaiah and ten others to appear before it on September 23. In the case of H.D. Kumaraswamy, a special court had issued summons against him, asking him to appear for questioning in connection with a denotification case on October 4. Previously, the special court had rejected the B report (closure report) of the Lokayukta police in the case, where it had cited lack of evidence. According ...

Can’t make contact with Vikram lander: ISRO 21.9.2019
Nellore: The disappointing end to an extraordinary feat of space science, research, development, engineering and technical excellence that was Chandrayaan seems to be the final emotion for this episode. No more hopes are left of establishing communications with the lander, Vikram, any more, an update of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) said that a national-level committee, comprising academicians and Isro experts analysing the cause of communication loss with the lander, concludes. The 14-days lifespan of the lander comes to end Saturday. Isro had lost contact with the Vikram lunar lander while making an audacious, and history-rewriting attempt, to become the first space agency in the world to land near the south pole of the moon during early hours of September 7, 2019. Though the landing anomaly smashed the dream of India of becoming only the fourth country to successfully soft land a spacecraft on moon, the mission demonstrated the professional competence of team Isro. The team had ...

Greens call for detailed study on Nilgiris landslips 21.9.2019
Ooty: The Nilgiris Environment and Socio-cultural Trust(NEST), has sought a detail study by experts on the landslips that occurred in recent rains in August  in Gudalur and Pandalur belt in Nilgiris western border to ascertain whether dominance of exotic flora there played havoc with the slope and soil stability. V. Sivadass, managing trustee of NEST, said that there were landslides, landslips as well as mud-slips at more than 100 spots in the Gudalur and Pandalur belts alone that made one genuinely suspect what really went wrong with the ecology there as these areas never witnessed landslips to such a magnitude in the past. "Though Gudalur belt with its rich flora is considered to be the oxygen-bank in the hills, over the years, quite huge quantities of exotic flora, including many trees such as acacia and silver oak and many exotic shrubs made its way into the thickly wooded slopes of Pandalur and Gudalur belts.   The soil texture in Gudalur-Pandalur belt is very fragile along the ...
