Non-allocation of funds by AAP Govt will 'cripple' sanitation services in Delhi: Gupta 26.4.2018 General News
The AAP government's failure to make non-plan fund allocations would "cripple" sanitation services of three municipal corporations in Delhi, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijender Gupta said today. Non-allocation of funds under different heads for 2018-19 would affect essential services such as door-to-door collection of garbage, maintenance of sanitary landfill sites, tipper-truck services, segregation of garbage, and improvement of roads by the three municipal corporations, the BJP leader said. "The gravity of the impact of financial denial by the Delhi government can be gauged from the fact that during 2017-18, these sectors received an allocation of Rs 1,228.42 crore. In place of increasing the allocation this year, the government reduced it to zero out of political ill-will," he said. Gupta alleged that the AAP government's move was an act of "revenge" as the party was defeated by the BJP in the municipal corporation elections last year. "It has been done with an eye on ...

The Uttarakhand Cabinet today gave its nod to a policy, permitting commercial use of dry pine leaves, considered the main factor behind forest fires in the state, for generating electricity. The cabinet's clearance to the policy will pave the way for generation of 100 MW of electricity from dry pine leaves, besides setting up ofbriquetting and bio-oil plants, Urban Development minister Madan Kaushik, who is also the state government's spokesperson said after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Apart from boosting alternative energy production in the state, it will also generate large scale employment opportunities at the local level, Kaushik said, adding that it will also reduce frequency of forest fires which cause great damage to wildlife and forest wealth. Under this policy, 10 and 25 KVA power generating units will be set up in Uttarakhand through state-based voluntary organisations, firms, industrial units co-operative societies and ...

Rajasthan govt eases construction clause on allotted land 26.4.2018 DNA: Opinion
The state government has offered relaxation to those who have failed to construct anything on the allotted land in the designated time period.  The urban development rules though provision for cancellation of such allotments, however, the government has authorised urban bodies to regularise such issues under the Mukhymantri Shehri Jan Kalyan Yojna.  “A decision at a competent level has been made to authorize the urban bodies to charge a fee and regularise land allotments where construction has not taken place in the stipulated time limit,” said a senior urban development officer.  A time-bound construction clause is part of all the land allotments and auctions by urban bodies. Those failing to abide by the condition seek for an extension from the bodies and in several instances the issue is referred to be considered at the government level. However, now they shall be eligible for regularisation by the local urban body. The decision has come as a relief for many of the major projects that have been ...

Civic bodies say it is tough to stop construction in unauthorised colonies in Delhi 26.4.2018 DNA: Urban Tales
The three municipal corporations in the city -- North, South and East --- say stopping illegal construction in unauthoursied colonies is tough as the locals and law-enforcement agencies do not support the sealing or demolition activity. The Supreme Court had stayed any construction activity that is not in confirmation with building bye-laws in the city's 1,797 unauthorised colonies, on Tuesday. The corporations are, however, waiting for the detailed order. According to officials, enforcement of the same lies with different agencies including Delhi government's Revenue and Urban Development departments where these colonies have come up on agricultural land. While there has been rampant illegal construction clustered in East Delhi, which houses the most number of unauthourised colonies in areas such as Laxmi Nagar, Pandav Nagar, Ganesh Nagar and Vinod Nagar, among others, none of the agencies have been able to stop it so far. "Taking action against unauthorised constructions has been a routine activity. ...
