NHRC demands fake encounter report 6.10.2017 DNA: Recent Columns
The killing of an alleged gangster, Sumit Gurjar, in an encounter by police in Gautam Budh Nagar, in Greater Noida, on Tuesday, has come to the notice of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) who have taken suo motu cognizance of the matter. The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh calling for a fact finding report regarding the alleged encounter. On Wednesday, family members of Gurjar had alleged that the police staged an"encounter" in which he was killed. According to the family, he was killed shortly after the police had picked him up from a market on September 30. However, the police has denied this claim. According to them they chanced upon Gurjar, along with three other unidentified men, in the area.
