Curfew was relaxed on Wednesday in riot-hit southern part of Manipurs Churachandpur district to enable residents to buy essential commodities. Authorities had also suspended internet services from Tuesday evening check the spread of rumours aimed at causing trouble. "Curfew was relaxed from 5 a.m. so that people could buy essential commodities," Churachandpur District Magistrate Lunminthang Haokip told IANS. "As of now, there has been no report of fresh violence but we are keeping a close watch on the situation," he said. Educational institutions and government establishments besides shops in the district remained closed. At least eight people have been killed and more than 30 injured after violence erupted on Monday evening following the Manipur governments adoption of three landmark bills -- Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (seventh amendment) Bill 2015, and Manipur Shops and Establishment (second amendment) Bill 2015. (Representational Image) More than 15 protesters were reported to have been injured Guwahati: In view of the growing protests and the death of at least eight civilians in the violence that erupted late Monday in Churachandpur district of South Manipur, the state administration clamped indefinite curfew across the entire state on Tuesday. The police said that at least two protesters were killed in police firing on Tuesday in Churachandpur, the epicentre of the protest. The police was forced to open fire as a mob tried to set a police station on fire. More than 15 protesters were reported to have been injured. The police, however, said it was yet to confirm the total number of those injured in the violence since Monday, as unofficial reports indicated this could be more than 50 people. Roads were blocked and the Indian Reserve Battalion and state police were called in to control the protesters.
