In the wake of the recent killing of a 24-year-old girl from Mizoram, the Police Commissioner of Delhi, BS Bassi, has assured security for people hailing from northeastern India living in the national capital. This was the third attack on people from the northeastern region in recent months.. Earlier, a student from Manipur was attacked in Bangalore for not speaking the regional language, and on Thursday, two youths from Nagaland state were brutally beaten up by miscreants in Gurgaon on the outskirts of Delhi. Bassi said, "What we have done is we have ensured that every police office and every police station is sensitised about the need to ensure protection of vulnerable communities, which include women, children, those who hail from northeast, senior citizens, that if they face any problem and when they approach the police station, utmost help is given and their problems are redressed." A day after 27-year-old woman from Mizoram was found murdered at her house in south Delhi’s Munirka, a panel of doctors conducted her autopsy on Saturday. Preliminary findings reportedly show that she died of “excessive bleeding” and stab wounds. No arrest, however, has yet been made in connection with the case and all suspects, including her live-in partner Virender Singh, are being questioned by the investigating officials. The call centre employee in Gurgaon, the victim, identified as Juliet Zonunmawi, a native of Aizawl in Mizoram, was admitted to Safdarjung hospital on Thursday night at about 11 pm. Singh, who was the one to take her to the hospital, has claimed that Juliet stabbed herself. The cops had on Friday said that a party had taken place at victim’s house on Thursday night.
