BJP's X factor in Karnataka to meet Asia's X factor before polls 23.4.2018 General News
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 23 (ANI): The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is banking heavily on a high voltage presence by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last leg of campaigning in the state before it goes to polls on May 12.Mr. Modi's presence is being dubbed as the X factor in this tri-cornered contest in the Karnataka assembly elections. While there is no evidence of any anti-incumbency wave against the present Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramiah, the confidence exhibited by former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and his father, former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda seems to indicate that a fractured mandate might make this closely watched election anybody's game.In all this speculation, where does the Prime Minister fit in? Clearly Narendra Modi is an unparalleled campaigner. He brings energy and tumult to state politics whenever he lands to campaign. And, it seems to have worked every single time for the BJP other than in Bihar, where the .

Lemongrass oil to stop smell from trash 14.4.2018 deccanherald.com
Its a common sight to see people covering their faces while passing by a garbage truck. Motorists speed up to escape the stench. In order to reduce the stench emanating from garbage trucks across the city, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will spray lemongrass oil on them. "We will be spraying lemongrass oil on every truck. This will completely reduce the stench," said Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Health and Solid Waste Management, BBMP. "This is the only pleasant-smelling oil. We will spray about 15 ml on every garbage truck." Ten bottles of the oil will be enough to spray on all garbage trucks. The oil costs about Rs 1,000 per litre. Khan hoped there will be no pungent smell until the garbage trucks reach the waste-processing plants and landfill sites. Six out of the seven waste-processing plants are functional. Praneeth K Sargur, a regular commuter on Sarjapur Road, said: "Its interesting to know the BBMP is trying this new method to reduce the bad smell. We should see how ...

Summer in, Tankers out 14.4.2018 deccanherald.com
Water tankers rule the roost on city outskirts. People are forced to buy water as BWSSB is yet to cover the entire city. Summer is here and so is the demand for water tankers in the city. This unregulated business in the city has been flourishing ever since 8 city municipal councils (CMCs), one town municipal council (TMC) and 110 villages were brought under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangara Palike (BBMP)in 2007. Most apartments mushrooming on city outskirts have no water supplied by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). According to officials, BWSSB despite having Cauvery water being supplied to over 9 lakh consumers, the city still falls short of the requirement which is largely fulfilled by private water tankers. Bhushan Iyer, a resident of Springfields Apartments located on Sarjapura Road says for the 550 odd apartments, they are spending nearly Rs 1 crore per year only for water. Apartments that have come up in East Bengaluru like Whitefield, Mahadevapura, KR Puram, Marathhalli, Sarjapura ...

With the Karnataka Assembly poll date nearing, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is likely to make at least three visits to the state, intensifying the partys campaigning as it seeks to retain power there, sources said. Polling will be held in Karnataka on May 12. Sources said Gandhi is expected to fan those areas of the state which he has not visited yet as part of his Jana Aashirwada Yatre there. "All his rallies and meetings till now have received a good response. There is a feeling among Karnataka workers that he should cover more areas in the four regions of the state to ensure our victory," a party leader said. Gandhi visiting the state will also ensure that workers remain upbeat till the election date, the leader added. During the Congress presidents recent road show in the states Tumkur, a party man had thrown a garland towards him and it had perfectly landed around the Congress chiefs neck. Roads fixed, BBMP to create buffer zones around waste sites before polls 14.4.2018 Deccan Herald - Breaking News Rss Feeds
In what appears to be an effort ahead of Assembly polls, the state government has decided to speed up the process of creating buffer zones around municipal solid waste (MSW) sites. With this, it wants to address the city's garbage problem and the stench emanating from the MSW sites. The government is pushing the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to work overtime to address the city's garbage problem and enforce the high court's recent orders. A senior BBMP official told DH that a committee had been formed and its members had also
