Nagpur cops file six new cases in Gosikhurd scam 20.2.2018 General News
Nagpur Police today registered six new offences in alleged Gosikhurd irrigation scam which pertains to irregularities in the tender process of the project, official said. Around 14 offences have been registered in connection with the scam in Nagpur till date, an official said. Investigating agency Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today approached the police and lodged a complaint against officials and contractors, a senior police official said. Gosikhurd project falls under the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC). During the open enquiry into the scam, the ACB found major irregularities and lapses in tender process as well as involvement of then engineers, divisional accounts officers of the department, contractors and their partners, he said. The cost of the tenders was illegally inflated by the government officials to favour specific contractors and their partners, he said. 8 PSUs to hit capital markets next fiscal: DIPAM Secy 18.2.2018 General News
As many as 8 public sector companies, including Hindustan Aeronautics and RITES, will hit the capital markets next fiscal as the government intends to unlock the real value of PSUs and bring in greater accountability. Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Neeraj Gupta said these initial public offerings (IPO) will be done in a "staggered manner" depending upon the size of the issuance. "Eight companies are at different stages of preparation (for an IPO) and will enter market at an appropriate time," Gupta told PTI. Of these, HAL has already secured market regulator Sebi nod for floating an IPO. The government plans to sell 10 per cent stake in the defence PSU.  A `Maha Panchayat' of a tribal community in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh has banned women of all ages from using mobile phones, saying they have a `corrupting influence'. The Maha Panchayat -- communal meeting -- of the Saharia tribe has asked girls and women from the community across 52 villages of Agra and Vijaypur areas in the district not to own mobile phones or even talk on them. Anybody found violating the diktat will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,100, it decided last month. However, an exception has been made for the women working in government offices who can use mobile phones, said a community leader. Maha Panchayat president Baishaaram Adivasi said that tribal `panchs' (community heads) from 52 villages met in Dehri area on January 27. The Bombay High Court, on Monday, picked loopholes in the Rooftop restaurant policy, which was finalised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Govt to save Rs 1,600 cr/yr in foodgrain procurement post GST 9.2.2018 General News
The Centre is estimated to save Rs 1,600 crore annually in procurement of foodgrains as its tax expenses have reduced after the introduction of GST, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said today. Only GST is being levied on procurement and not state taxes, resulting in 18 per cent reduction in taxes on foodgrain procurement, he said. The government is expected to save Rs 1,600 crore annually, he added. On capital restructuring in Food Corporation of India (FCI) as announced in the Union Budget 2018-19, Paswan said the government will infuse equity in the FCI next fiscal to reduce interest burden. FCI will also issue long term bonds. FCI is the government's nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains.
