Odisha House adjourned twice amid ruckus by Opp members 24.4.2018 General News
The Odisha Assembly was today adjourned twice over various demands and allegations by the members of the opposition Congress and the BJP. Just 25 minutes into the Question Hour, the Congress members stood on their feet to raise doubts over the state government's "sincerity in implementing Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA) in tribal-dominated districts". "The PESA Act was enacted by the Centre to ensure self governance through Gram Sabhas for people living in the Scheduled Areas, but the state government does not go by its provisions," Congress MLA Prafulla Majhi alleged. The Gram Sabhas are not given adequate importance in Sundergarh and a few other districts, he said. Don't make irresponsible statements: Modi to BJP leaders 22.4.2018 General News
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked BJP leaders to refrain from giving "irresponsible" statements, saying such comments hurt the party's image. In an interaction with party's MPs, MLAs and other representatives, Modi said leaders at times jump to make statements in front of the media and end up providing "masala" (fodder to controversies). There is no point then blaming it for controversies, he said. "Don't blame the media. It is doing its job. It's our job to not get entangled in every thing and guide the nation on every issue by standing in front of the TV. Those with the responsibility of speaking on the issue will do it," he said. Touching on the subject of some party leaders making embarrassing comments, Modi said his remarks might seem bitter but must be made. "At times our workers talk a lot about the media doing this, media doing that. But have we thought that we end up giving 'masala' to the media with our mistakes? As if we are some social scientists or scholars who can

The ongoing cash crunch in Gujarat worsened today with several ATMs and banks running dry, especially in villages and the tribal belts, even though the Centre played down the issue terming it as only "temporary shortages". Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, who is also the state finance minister, acknowledged that banks are facing cash crunch and said the government is in touch with the RBI to ensure enough cash is supplied to banks.
