The Gujarat government recently found the caste certificates of 18 Class I officers from tribal community dubious and has issued the order of probe to state scrutiny committee. The tribal development minister Ganpat Vasava had received a number of complaints from the tribal community on fake caste certificates and he directed the officials to verify the certificates of these officials which have been found suspicious. The minister has appointed 14 DySP officials to run further probe in the case. Later, the government decided to scrutiny 20,000-odd other employees who got the job on reserved seats for tribal candidates by producing the caste certificates. A scrutiny committee today invalidated the caste certificate of independent MLA from Morva Hadaf, Bhupendra Khant, negating his claim to be belonging to a tribal community. Morva Hadaf constituency in Panchamahal district was reserved for tribal candidates. Following the decision, the ruling BJP in Gujarat said it would move the high court to have Khant disqualified. Khant defeated BJP's Vikramsinh Dindor by over 4,000 votes in the December 2017 Assembly elections. After winning, he joined the opposition Congress. The five-member scrutiny committee headed by Tribal Development Commissioner R J Makadia had received a complaint from local tribal leaders that Khant produced a fake caste certificate to contest on a seat reserved for tribals. The Election Commission today announced the date of bypolls for Mungaoli and Kolaras assembly seats. The bypolls will be held on February 24 and the counting of votes would take place on February 28, a poll official informed. Bypolls to the two Assembly seats were necessitated due to the death of sitting Congress MLAs Mahendra Singh Kalukheda (Mungaoli) and Ram Singh Yadav (Kolaras). "The poll notifcation would be issued on January 30. The nominations can be filed till February 6 while scrutiny of the same will be done on February 7. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 9," the poll official said. With the announcement of dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect, he informed. The bypolls are crucial for both the Congress and the ruling BJP as the results are likely to reflect the mood of the state in the run up to Assembly polls expected to take place in October-November this year.

Stones hurled at Gujarat minister's convoy 14.1.2018 General News
Gujarat Tribal Development Minister Ganpat Vasava faced the ire of some tribals in Rajpipla town of Narmada district today with stones being hurled at his convoy as he left the venue of the Adivasi Sanskrutik Ekta Mahasammelan, the police said. Rajpipla Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Parmar said no one was hurt in the incident nor did the stones hit the minister's car.
