Road trip to Delhi: After being barred by airlines, Shiv Sena MP Gaikwad travels by car 29.3.2017 DNA: Top News
Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad, who has been barred by all major domestic airlines for assaulting an Air India duty manager, has chosen to travel by road to Delhi for the ongoing Parliament session. "Gaikwad is reaching Delhi by car today but will not attend the day's proceedings of the Lok Sabha," sources close to the beleaguered Osmanabad MP said. Making it clear that Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad won’t be allowed to fly anytime soon, Air India on Tuesday foiled two of his attempts to fly via the national carrier on Wednesday. Not just Air India, whose staff Gaikwad had assaulted on Thursday, but all other airlines also maintained their stand to boycott Gaikwad for his unruly behaviour. Gaikwad may again be left with no option but to take a train just as he did on Friday after being banned by all airlines. The airlines stuck to their stand despite the massive pressure being mounted by the political class, extending beyond Gaikwad’s Shiv Sena, to have the ban revoked. Most airlines said they were on “alert mode” to ensure Gaikwad does not manage to board their flights. The state carrier, which had grounded the MP for abusing and assaulting a 60-year-old Air India manager last week, first cancelled Gaikwad’s Mumbai-Delhi ticket and then cancelled a ticket that he had booked from Hyderabad to Delhi later in the evening. Hyderabad is just 300 ...
