Five spots in Gujarat 'feasible' for seaplane project 13.8.2018 DNA: India
Five popular spots in Gujarat are 'feasible' for seaplane projects, said a report by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Sunday. If everything goes smoothly, the seaplanes will start from Sabarmati riverfront, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in 2017, had a stint on a seaplane, leaving the country mesmerised. Modi was widely criticised for using the seaplane as an election stint. The aviation experts, however, have now promptly sent a technical team last June to study the feasibility of the programme. Sabarmati riverfront, Sardar Patel dam, Dharoi dam to cononect Ambaji, Palitana and Tapi have been recognized to develop water aerodromes. AAI will soon get on the task of looking into the nitty-gritty details. Nearly 800 to 900 metres of space will be required for a plane to land in water. "As per new notification of DGCA, commercial airlines need to have a twin engine if they want to operate. Whereas, the charter service can run on single engine. ...

Seattle aeroplane theft: Fighter jets 'used sonic boom' to intercept Alaska Airlines plane 12.8.2018 DNA: Money
Two 15-Cs broke the sound barrier to intercept the stolen Alaska Airlines plane that was stolen from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Friday night. Facebook users reported hearing sonic booms over Eatonville. Earlier, a "suicidal" airline mechanic stole an empty Alaska Airlines plane and took off from Sea-Tac International Airport in Washington state before crashing near a small island, officials said. Preliminary information suggests that the 29-year-old mechanic stole the Horizon Air Q400 and the crash occurred because the person was "doing stunts in air or lack of flying skills," the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said. Witnesses reported seeing the plane being chased by military aircraft before it crashed near Ketron Island, southwest of Tacoma, Washington. There were no passengers aboard. Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, said on Twitter that the man was suicidal and there was no connection to terrorism. The sheriff's department said they were working to ...
