Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation unveils plan for heritage development 3.6.2018 DNA: Opinion
India's first World Heritage city, Ahmedabad, has finally rolled up its sleeve for making the development plan. With just one month to go for the first anniversary of the achievement when UNESCO inscribed 5.35 km of walled city as World Heritage City. "For the city development and conservation plan, we have roped in National Institute of Urban Affairs. We have other local institutes also to help in conservation like Nirma University, GTU, CEPT etc," said Mukesh Kumar, municipal commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Elaborating the process, deputy municipal Ketan Thakkar said, "We have initiated city development and conservation plans for the walled part of the city. Madrassas in the capital city today celebrated the 71st Independence Day by unfurling the tricolour and reciting national anthem, even as the Uttar Pradesh government's recent order of videography of the celebrations created "confusions" among the Islamic schools. Though many madrassas paid heed to the order, many other claimed that they never received any official word on the celebrations. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahli, head of Darul Uloom Firangimahal, said, "The Independence Day was celebrated in the madrassas traditionally with unfurling of national flag, recital of national anthem and distribution of sweets among students." On being asked about the state directives on videography of the celebrations, the cleric said some of the Muslim religious schools have been doing it for their records, while some other madrassas chose to avoid the order.
