TMC continues with its drama over National Register of Citizens 12.8.2018 DNA: Popular News
As BJP national president Amit Shah tore into the Mamata Banerjee's TMC in Kolkata, leaders of the ruling party in West Bengal staged a 'Dhikkar Michhil' – protest rally – against the NRC. TMC protests were seen in North Dinajpore, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Burdwan and Bankura districts. Party workers carried flexes banners that read 'Black Day being observed to protest citizenship taken away from Assam's citizens'; 'BJP go back'; and 'Du hazar unish, BJP finish' (BJP will be finished in 2019). The drama didn't stop there. At Rishra in Hooghly, a few TMC supporters had a tonsure. TMC spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Derek O' Brien said they will take legal action against Shah if he doesn't apologise. "He has insulted the culture of Bengal. He has alleged that cable televisions have been blacked out at the behest of Mamata Banerjee but there had not been any blackout." Article ...

FX chief says Marvel killed Donald Glover's version of 'Deadpool' 5.8.2018 DNA: Opinion
Fans of Donald Glover and his bravely creative writing finally got to learn that a no-go from Marvel killed the Deadpool animation series that was announced for FX. During the recently concluded Television Critics Association's Summer Tour, FX CEO John Landgraf revealed that it was never their decision to shelf the series. Donald and Stephen Glover's show Atlanta is already one of the prestige comedies on FX. Collaborating with them one more time for an IP like Deadpool seemed fitting for the cable channel. But the project was canned quickly after it was announced. Glover, taking an open stab at Marvel, released a mock 15-page-long script on his Twitter handle. Since deleted tweets took a dig at racial politics in the US and other current issues like immigration, gave a taste of how different it will be from the silver screen avatar presented by Ryan Reynolds. According to Variety report, Landgraf revealed that Marvel did not want the show written by Glover brothers. He said, "I think that Marvel will ...

Disney gets approval to buy Fox's film and tv assets for $71 billion 27.7.2018 DNA: Top News
Twenty-First Century Fox Inc said on Friday its shareholders voted to approve Walt Disney Co's $71 billion purchase of its film and television assets. Results were announced at a special shareholders' meeting held in New York. Shares of Fox were down slightly by 0.3 percent to $45.25 in morning trading, while Disney shares were down 0.5 percent to $112.93. Disney was forced to sweeten its offer last month after Comcast Corp, the largest U.S. cable company, made a $66 billion bid for Fox's well-known TV shows and movie franchises, including the "X-Men" and "The Simpsons." The bidding between Comcast and Disney was part of a bigger battle in the entertainment industry as media companies spend tens of billions of dollars on deals to compete with Netflix Inc and Amazon.com Inc. Last week, Comcast dropped its pursuit of Fox's film and television studios, cable networks and international TV businesses. Disney's cash and stock offer has already received approval from U.S. regulators. In an agreement with the ...
