On December 31 2020, the newsrack service will be shut down permanently.

It has been a nice long run from the Sarai days in 2004 to being hosted on its own domain around 2006. Beside maintenance, there has been no real active development on the code or the features since early 2008. Since 2015, even all that maintenance was pretty bare bones. A lot of news sources no longer provide reliable RSS feeds and since mid 2018, there were growing issues with the service and I only kept it alive to assist a handful of users.

So, it is time to shut this down. The internet world in 2020 is vastly differently from 2003 when I first conceptualized this service. Thanks for using this all these years.

Where Is the Real-Time Web Message Bus? 18.9.2009 ReadWriteWeb
Real-time computing is not new. This is the third generation of real-time: • First generation: was done on a single processor, usually for process control in military systems. • Second generation: within a Local Area Network, usually for a financial trading room. • Third generation: applied across the whole Web/Internet, what we call the real-time Web. In each generation a stack has emerged, and secure messaging has been key to that stack. The names change and the scale of the prize and challenges certainly changes, but the basic issue remains the same: delivering messages reliably and quickly. In this post, we trace the steps from the second generation to the third generation to see how the real-time Web might play ...

Green Diary Rescue & Open Thread: Van Jones Emails 18.9.2009 NewsTrust Yahoo Pipes Feed
Van Jones e-mailed this message to friends and supporters on Tuesday, Sept. 15. It's his first public comment since resigning from the White House on Sept. 6: Dear Friends: My family and I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support that we have received over the past week or so. I resigned from the White House on Sept. 6, and I have remained silent since then—in keeping with my promise not to be a distraction during a key moment in the Obama Presidency. Over the past several days, however, many people have been asking how they can help and what they can do. The main thing is this: please do everything you can to support both President Obama and the green jobs movement. Winning real change is ultimately the ...
