SHILLONG, Aug 07: Seeking to safeguard Meghalaya from influx and illegal immigration, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has decided to constitute a committee which will come up with a proposal for mechanisms to rid the state of these problems.
“We have decided to constitute a committee to conduct an in-depth study into the problem of influx and illegal immigration in the state,” UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh informed in this regard after a central executive committee meeting of the party which was held here on Tuesday.

SHILLONG, Aug 07: The regional political party – Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has demanded that the state government starts considering the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Meghalaya.
In a memorandum which was submitted to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma here on Tuesday, KHNAM president, Pyndapborthiaw Saibon said, “…the demands made by various pressure groups for implementation of NRC to keep check of illegal immigrants needs to be given due consideration under the presence circumstances.”

SHILLONG, Aug 06: Aimed at improving the safety and security of the residents of Meghalaya, the state government has decided to revisit a relevant Act towards this end.
Informing that the government will re – look the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said, “I have told the Law minister that will ask the law department to again revisit the existing Act and come up with the necessary proposed amendment as we wanted to have a very strong Act.”

SHILLONG, Aug 06: In a shocking statement, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has expressed its appreciation to the Meghalaya government for ‘implementing the ILP’ in the main Secretariat building here even as it has urged for this to be extended to the rest of the state.
