India's economic expansion to boost mining: President 16.5.2018 General News
India's GDP and larger developmental process will gain momentum over the coming decades and in turn bolster the mining and minerals sector, President Ram Nath Kovind said today. He also asserted that eventually the local communities must benefit from the discovery, extraction and development of mineral resources. The reform process set in motion in the mining sector four years ago is bearing rich dividends and will enhance the fiscal health of states, Kovind said at the National Geoscience awards event here. "India is one of the fastest growing major economies in the world. Our GDP as well as our larger developmental process is set to accelerate over the coming decades. The mining and mineral sector is poised to grow as a result of this expansion of the economy. At the same time, it will also be a driver of economic expansion," he said. Rajgurunagar-Khed SEZ cancelled due to injustice to farmers: 11.5.2018 General News
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that his government cancelled the Rajgurunagar-Khed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as injustice was done to the farmers of the area. Fadnavis had recently cancelled the SEZ and had also waived off the stamp duty on the transfer of land to project-affected people of four villages, Nimgaon, Kanersar, Dawadi and Kendur. Fadanvis was speaking to a farmers' delegation, led by Hatkanangle Lok Sabha MP Raju Shetti, which met him to thank him for this decision. "The government has always given priority to the interests of farmers. When acquiring land, maximum compensation should be given. Efforts have been made to see that the rehabilitation of projected affected people is done well," Fadnavis said. Shetti hailed the Maharashtra CM's decision as positive and pro-farmer. In 2007, 1,250 hectares of land was acquired for the SEZ from the four villages in 2007. According to the contract, 15 per cent of this land was to be ...

Former militants who returned via Nepal face difficult times in Kashmir 6.5.2018 General News
Nearly 450 families of former militants hoping to rebuild their lives after they returned to the Kashmir Valley through the Nepal route are facing a relentless struggle to make both ends meet in the absence of a proper rehabilitation policy, according to available accounts. The hapless condition of the returnees has also heightened the risk that some of them may return to militancy as instances of suicide, bouts of depression and attempts to return to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) involving these families have been reported regularly with neither the Jammu and Kashmir government nor the central authorities having a clear cut policy on how to bring them into the national mainstream. Security agencies have been constantly raising the issue about their rehabilitation at the earliest, fearing what they said were "active time bombs" that can explode anytime. Security officials feel that some workable solution should be redrawn for the Nepal returnees, who could also become an easy fodder
