Meeting over mine auctioning 22.5.2013 deccanherald.com
The team of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), led by its chairman P V Jayakrishnan, held a day-long meeting on Tuesday with officials of the State Mines and Geology and the Forest departments over auctioning 'C' category iron ore mines in the State.

The CEC team gathered information on the status of 'C' category mines (where illegal mining is rampant) and discussed ways to auction them. "The Supreme Court had cancelled the lease of 49 mines falling under 'C' category and directed that they should be auctioned in a transparent manner," official sources said.

The Supreme Court has ordered that mining operations at 'B' category mines be allowed only after the implementation of reclamation and rehabilitation plan by the lease holders.
"The meeting was also witness to discussions about the appropriate control mechanism required," sources added. The meeting will continue for two more days.
