Guj: Farmers opposing GPCL possession of land clash with cops 13.5.2018 General News
A clash broke out today between police and farmers in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district when the agriculturists resisted the Gujarat Power Corporation Limited's (GPCL) bid to take possession of their land for a proposed lignite plant. The incident occurred near Surka village when a group of farmers hailing from around 12-affected villages was marching towards the GPCL mining site, police said. Bhavnagar Superintendent of Police P L Mal said the farmers hurled stones at the police personnel who resorted to baton-charge and fired 52 tear-gas shells to quell the protesters. The GPCL had recently started the process to take possession of land from farmers which it had acquired for the proposed plant around 20 years back, he said. "Police lobbed 52 tear-gas shells and baton charged farmers after they threw stones at the policemen deployed at the GPCL mining site. "We have rounded up five persons and are in the process of registering an FIR against them on rioting charge," the SP .

Maha to pay Rs 82 cr to AAI for Kolhapur airport expansion 11.5.2018 General News
The Maharashtra Government will pay Rs 82 crore to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for expansion of the Kolhapur airport, it has said. A government resolution (GR) issued two days ago said the AAI had demanded that the state share 25 to 30 per cent of the cost of the expansion work. The work is estimated to cost Rs 274 crore. The state would be paying Rs 82 crore to the AAI, the GR said. The Kolhapur airport was leased to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation in 1997. After the lease expired in 2013, it was handed over to the AAI. The state government recently named the airport as Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Airport. The state government has also approved Rs 26 crore for expansion of the Ratnagiri airport under the Centre's regional connectivity scheme, 'Udaan'. Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC) had sought approval for acquiring 33.81 hectares of land for the expansion, and a grant of Rs 26 crore for the same purpose. The funds will be ...
