CCTVs to guard water reservoirs (Cached) 21.1.2013 Asian Age: Mumbai
The BMC has decided to set up state-of-the-art remote CCTV surveillance system at water installations like reservoirs and pumping stations in the city. These installations will have CCTVs and watch towers in view of the security threats to them. According to civic officials, CCTVs have already been installed at Tansa, Modak Sagar and Vihar Lake, as well as, the Bhandup water treatment plant complex and the Pise-Panjrapol complex. The scheme will now be extended to the eight water reservoirs and five pumping stations in the city. “Lakes, water purification centres, reservoirs and pumping stations are very important and sensitive to ensure regular water supply to the city. In the backdrop of 26/11 terror attacks and continued warnings from the police, their security has became an issue of paramount importance to the BMC,” said a senior civic official. “It has become very essential to protect the dams and purification centres from the anti-social elements.
