Potholes playing role of terrorists in city, BJP tells George 4.10.2017 deccanherald.com
BJP state spokesperson and Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar on Wednesday wondered why 'murder charges' should not be framed against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as the 'killer potholes' in the city have claimed human lives by the day. In a strongly worded letter to Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Kumar has said potholes on Bengaluru roads are successfully executing the work of 'terrorists' and accused the minister of turning a blind eye to the pathetic condition of roads. Kumar stated that according to BBMP's own admission there are 15,935 potholes on Bengaluru roads. Deadlines not met Several deadlines had been set to fill the potholes but nothing much has happened on the ground. Citizens had started a 'contest' to identify the biggest potholes on Bengaluru roads, but the BBMP had remained 'shameless', he stated. Instead, the civic agency boasted of achieving several goals under the leadership of the minister. Kumar sought to know from George why coordination meetings with ...

BJP leaders, Cong ministers spar in BBMP Council 28.9.2017 deccanherald.com
High drama marked the mayoral polls on Thursday. The BJP boycotted the elections, making it a cakewalk for the Congress-JD(S) combine to take both the posts of mayor and deputy mayor. Starting the election process, when Regional Commissioner M Jayanthi asked if any candidate wished to withdraw from the contest, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and Minister for Urban Development R Roshan Baig asked BJP MLA R Ashoka and Opposition leader in the BBMP Council, Padmanabha Reddy, to withdraw their party's candidates. Reddy stood up and told Baig: "Please do not ask us to withdraw. We have more voters than your party. If at all, you should withdraw from the polls." As soon as Jayanthi suggested that the time to withdraw the names was over and asked who all were willing to vote for R Sampath Raj of the Congress, all members of the Congress and the JD(S) raised their hands. BJP members stood up and chorused in unison: "This is unjust. We do not agree with this. The Congress is involved in irregularities. ...

JD(S) may snap ties with Cong in Palike, hints HDK 17.8.2017 Deccan Herald - City
JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday said the party will soon take a call on whether or not it should continue its alliance with the Congress in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council, ahead of the Mayoral election next month. "I will soon meet our party corporators and take a decision," Kumaraswamy told reporters, while dropping hints that his party is not keen on continuing the alliance. The Congress cannot hold the reins of administration in BBMP council without the support of the JD(S). Though the BJP is the single largest party, it does not have the numerical strength to take control of the council. "All decisions are taken by Bengaluru City Development Minister K J George and other Congress MLAs. The standing committees don't have any power. They don't get any files and no project comes to them for approval. This is nothing but a loot. That's why Bengaluru has become like this," Kumaraswamy said. The Siddaramaiah government may be the last Congress government in ...

The alleged atrocities against women corporators of Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency once again rocked the BBMP council meeting leading to its adjournment on Thursday. The issue had dominated the previous meeting in the last week of May after a furore over this issue. As soon as the council meeting began, BJP corporator from JP Park, Mamatha Vasudev, raised the matter of injustice to women corporators and the silence of the Palike administration. Mayor G Padmavathi retorted saying that she had a meeting with Bengaluru Development Minister K J George on this issue for three hours where it was decided that the officers will have to furnish details of the programme of works, 14th finance commission grants, social welfare projects, single houses and other Palike projects to the corporators. The reply did not convince BJP leader Padmanabha Reddy, who claimed that there was a threat to women corporators representing wards under the Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone.
