Heavy rain left parts of Gujarat in a near deluge and triggered fresh landslides in Himachal Pradesh, even as the flood situation in Assam remained grim with prediction of rain in the northeast on Sunday. Heavy showers pounded Tankara taluka of Gujarat's Morbi district in a short time. Rainwater breached several check dams and caused heavy water-logging. Tankara gauged a massive 280 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Teams of the disaster management department with the help of National Disaster Response Force personnel rescued around 14 people stranded in floodwaters in the district. Authorities are learnt to have shifted over 150 people to safety. Some locals in Tankara also pulled out two persons from cars that got swept away in the water. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said the state's disaster management authority has been put on alert to tackle any emergency situation. The water level in 91 major reservoirs in the country continued to be at 19 per cent of their total capacity for the second week in a row, the government said today.The Union water resources ministry said the reservoirs -- including the Nagarjuna Sagar, Indira Sagar and Bhakra dams -- contained 29.665 billion cubic metres (BCM) of water for the week ending today.The fresh water level is 126 per cent of the storage reported during the corresponding period last year and 91 per cent of the decadal average, the ministry said in a statement.Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu reported lesser storage vis- vis last year.Reservoirs in Himachal Pradesh have reported equal storage.Punjab, West Bengal, Tripura, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Karnataka have recorded better storage.
