Over a thousand farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra in a matter of five months between June and October 2017, the state government said today. Subhash Deshmukh, Minister for Cooperation in the Devendra Fadnavis government, said there were 1254 farmers' suicides in the state in five months. Giving a written reply to a starred question asked by 102 MLAs in state assembly, Deshmukh admitted that only 9.43 lakh eligible farmers have been provided with benefits of loan waiver scheme till December 5, 2017.
