Government wants to give Rs40 lakh per bigha of land in Amadpor village in Navsari district instead of market price of Rs five crore, said Jayesh Patel, president of Gujarat Khedut Samaj (GKS), which is protesting against Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train and is on a four-day drive to mobilize farmers who are also against the project as it eats into their fertile land. On the third day of the drive, 'Khedut Sampark Abhiyan' GKS visited and Angoli villages of Surat district, as well as Kachholi and Amadpor village of Navsari district. Patel said the drive is able to garner a response from villages. "In every village, 100-500 farmers are attending the meetings and oppose the project in one voice,' said Patel.Talking about Amadpor village, Patel said that the market price of the land is Rs five crore but the government wants to buy land at jantri rates which is Rs40 lakh per bigha. The Centre on Tuesday announced a subgroup of chief ministers, who will work on the convergence of MNGREGS and agriculture policies. The subgroup, to be convened by Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Chouhan, has Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling, along with NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand as members. During the Niti Aayog deliberations on doubling of farmers' income, Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu suggested that MNREGS could be used effectively during the pre-sowing and post-harvest process to reduce agrarian distress. The subgroup said that it will submit a report in the next three months, and will hold its first meeting sometime in July. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 15 to discuss various issues concerning the state. The ambitious month-long Jal Sanchay Abhiyan officially concluded on Thursday. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani at a ceremony in Dhandhuka town in Ahmedabad district.
