The much-awaited Real Estate Act comes into force from Monday but only 13 states and UTs have so far notified rules under the Act which Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said will enable only regulation of the sector and not "strangulation". The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act promises to bring in the much-desired transparency, accountability and efficiency in the real estate sector and the government has described the implementation of the Act as the beginning of an era where the consumer in king. The government has brought in the legislation to protect home buyers and encourage genuine private players. The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2016 was passed by Parliament in March last year and all the 92 sections of the Act come into effect from May 1. However, only 13 states and UTs have so far notified the rules. The states that have notified the rules are Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Petrol, diesel price hiked marginally; daily revision in 5 states from today 1.5.2017 DNA: Top News
The prices of petrol and diesel were hiked marginally on Sunday, effective midnight. While the price of petrol was raised by one paise per litre, diesel prices were hiked by 44 paise a litre. This follows an increase in petrol and diesel prices by Rs. 1.39 and Rs. 1.04 per litre respectively, on April 16. Post this, petrol was to be sold at Rs. 68.64 and diesel at Rs. 57.15 across New Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). Earlier, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) released an official statement that the movement of prices in the international oil market and INR-USD exchange rate shall continue to be monitored closely and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes. From today, the IOC would put daily price revision of fuel prices into effect in five cities on a pilot basis.
