75 pc households feel corruption went up, 27 pc say paid bribe: Study 18.5.2018 General News
Seventy five per cent households across 13 states feel that the level of corruption has increased or remained the same during the last one year, while 27 per cent confessed to paying a bribe to avail public services in the last one year, according to a new survey. The 'India Corruption Study' conducted by the Centre For Media Studies covered more than 2,000 households from over 200 rural and urban clusters of 13 states -- Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Karantaka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal. The report covered 11 public services -- public distribution system (PDS), electricity, health, school education, water supply , banking services, police, judicial services, land/housing and transport and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS, only rural). The Madras High Court has ordered an inquiry into allegations that funds under the job guarantee scheme MGNREGA were misappropriated in the name of dead persons in Tamil Nadu's Perambalur district. A bench of justices T S Sivagnanam and M Seshasayee also issued notices to the central and state governments besides others, including those overseeing the work related to digging of ponds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGA), in the Noothapur village. The directive came on a public interest litigation petition filed by three residents of the village. They alleged that money had been paid in the name of persons of the village who were dead and without carrying out the pond work during 2015-17. Directing the district collector to conduct an inquiry, the court noted that the assistant project officer has recorded statements from various persons. Indian Bank launches Public Financial Management System 5.4.2018 General News
Public sector Indian Bank has introduced public financial management system, aimed at benefiting government agencies for taking up payment service. Indian Bank, Managing Director and CEO, Kishor Kharat along with senior bank executives launched the service here, recently, a bank statement said. Following the thrust given by central government agencies to process all payments through the PFMS platform, city headquartered bank launched the service. PFMS is designed to help the government agencies for processing payments, tracking, monitoring, accounting, reconciliation. Currently, the facility was being used for NREGA transactions in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, it said. Kharat on the occasion also launched 'Bharat QR' - a mobile payment collection facility to accept digital payments.
