Union Minister of State for Skill Development Anantkumar Hegde, on Sunday said, the Union government is keen to establish Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in the state. Addressing reporters in a press conference, here, the minister said, "The Union government is ready to establish IIS in the state if the state government provides the land required for the same. The government has already established a IIS at Kanpur and planning to establish in other states too," he informed. Hegde said, "International Skill Centers have been set up at various parts of the country to impart skills among the youths. The government planned to open such centers at all the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country. Already a total of 285 are functioning. The Karnataka government today said it would soon unveil an action plan for implementation of its electric vehicle and energy storage policy aimed at creating conducive environment and necessary infrastructure for electric mobility in the city. Stakeholders would meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tomorrow with regard to the action plan on electric vehicles and battery charging, Minister for Major and Medium Industries R V Deshpande told reporters here. "How fast we can bring Bengaluru under the map of EV (electric vehicle) we will discuss in the meeting. We will come out with a guideline or a road map for the state, but mainly for the Bengaluru city," he said. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot on Saturday said that the reservation for persons with disability (PwD) in employment has been increased from 3 to 4%, with 1% reservation set aside for autistic candidates. He was speaking at the 25th anniversary meeting of the Karnataka Parents Association for Mentally Retarded Citizens. There are 21 recognised disabilities in all and they have been divided into four categories, with each category getting 1% reservation, Gehlot explained. One category has been created for candidates with Autism, Thallasemia, Cerebral Palsy, mental illnesses. "Many objected saying that candidates with autism should not be given reservation because they would create disturbances in offices. But, if we want to bring them into the mainstream society, this is important. The reservation has come into effect from April and I urge people to make use of it," Gehlot said.
