Panel says no to eviction of lake encroachers 21.11.2017 deccanherald.com
In a big relief to owners of individual houses and apartments located on lake land in Bengaluru, a Legislative Assembly committee on lake encroachments on Tuesday recommended to the government not to evict them. The panel has suggested that the government explore the possibility of either issuing ownership rights after imposing penalties or leasing out properties if the chance of reviving the lakes are bleak and if the water bodies have completely lost their original features. Otherwise, action should be taken to evict all encroachers. All cases of encroachments should be looked into on a case-to-case basis and appropriate action should be taken, the report, tabled in the Assembly, stated. The committee has recommended demolition of commercial buildings if the lakes can be revived. For layouts formed by the government agencies like the Bengaluru Development Authority and the Karnataka Housing Board on lakes, the panel has recommended that lake development cess be imposed on the property owners and ...

Mithun inspires Karnataka's big win 4.11.2017 Deccan Herald - Sports
Pacer Abhimanyu Mithun spearheaded the charge as a ruthless Karnataka completed the demolition act, posting an innings and 136-run win over Maharashtra in their Group A Ranji Trophy encounter here on Saturday. The 28-year-old, who set up Karnatakas quest for a hat-trick of wins with an intelligent spell on Friday afternoon, was at the top of his game on a cool final morning as well to knock the stuffing out of a beleaguered Maharashtra at the MCA Stadium. Mithun (5/66) first removed overnight batsmen Ruturaj Gaikwad (65, 130b, 10x4) and then Rahul Tripathi (51, 55b, 7x4, 1x6) with two well-laid traps. Knowing that the two attack-minded batsmen would go for their shots and were in no mood to grind out a long innings, Mithun consistently kept pitching the ball up, teasing them into driving him. While a few balls did go for boundaries, there were some play-and-misses and a couple of edges as well. Mithun received excellent support from skipper R Vinay Kumar from the other end too. Both Mithun and Vinay, ...
