Now pay Rs 230 as toll on Mumbai-Pune expressway from April 1 23.3.2017 DNA: India
If you travel on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, get ready to shell out Rs 35 extra from next month. All vehicles using the expressway will have to pay at least 18% more amount, which means, motorist will have pay Rs 230 instead of Rs 195 from April 1, reported Times of India . The state government had issued a notification in 2004 about the 18% toll rise every three years from 2005, said Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd officials. However, RTI activists have demanded that the state end toll collection on the expressway as the government had recovered the cost to build it and had made a profit. They have claimed that IRB Infrastructure has recovered Rs 2,880 crore from toll levy on Mumbai-Pune Expressway till November 2016. According to the activists, IRB paid Rs 918 crore upfront to Maharashtra government to collect toll and maintain Mumbai-Pune Expressway for 15 years (upto August 2019), but it has already collected Rs 2,880 crore till November 2016. Mhada issues show cause notice to developer over "illegal floors" in buildings 22.3.2017 DNA: Money
The Mumbai Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) on Tuesday issued a showc ause notice to developer M/S B G Shirke on several illegal floors allegedly developed in three buildings when permission was not granted for more than three floors. The buildings are part of the "Maitri Cooperative Housing Society at Kalina in which several serving and retired IAS and IPS officers have sought flats. Mhada has given a contract to construct the buildings.  RTI applicant and activist, Anil Galgali in his complaint to the chief minister and municipal commissioner had written stating that the illegal floors in Maitri should be demolished. Mhada had reserved a plot and asked the contractor to build three buildings. While BMC had given permission for two and three floors, the contractor went ahead and made around 12 floors in each of the wings without any permission.    On Tuesday, the MHADA issued a notice asking the contractor to explain the construction of illegal floors. Files related to the grant of Rs 2.5 crore for a film on Bal Gangadhar Tilak that was never made, have gone missing from the governments records. The revelation surfaced during a hearing before the Central Information Commission which was adjudicating a matter related to the Union Culture Ministry. "The Commission finds that key records of sanction and payment of Rs 2.5 crores to Vinay Dhumale for production of a movie on Bal Gangadhar Tilak is missing and except for some oral statements by the CPIO and Deputy Secretary, there is no record present of who held the files," Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu noted. He has directed the Culture Ministry to initiate an inquiry into the missing files, and submit a report about action taken within 60 days of receiving this order. The case related to V R Kamalapurkar who had filed an RTI application with the Culture Ministry seeking to know the records related the film on Tilak which was sanctioned in 2005.
