Rajasthan: Mother, son and daughter found dead in well 24.5.2018 General News
A 26-year-old woman was found dead in a well along with her son and daughter in Rajasthan's Sikar district, police said today. The bodies of Maya Jogi, her son Om Prakash (5) and daughter Ankita (3) were yesterday recovered from a well in Paldi village under the Balara police station area, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lakshmangarh) Brajmohan Aswal said. Aswal said brother of the deceased woman has lodged a complaint against her in-laws alleging murder over dowry dispute. A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated, the officer said, adding that the bodies have been handed over to the family members after post-mortem.

UP: Man sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for killing his wife 24.5.2018 General News
A fast track court here sentenced a man to ten years imprisonment for killing his wife in 2006 over dowry dispute. Judge Balraj Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on the accused Charan Singh after holding him guilty under Section 304-B (dowry death) of the IPC yesterday. According to prosecution, the accused allegedly pushed his wife off the roof of their house, resulting in her death on November 24, 2006.

TURA, May 23: The death of a young woman allegedly through hanging in the village of Magumari, Haripur under West Garo Hills (WGH) district, has raised a huge cry in the plain belt after the father of the victim filed a FIR at Tura Women’s Police Station on allegations of torture for dowry by her in laws.
The victim had married one Zolbahar Sk on August 27, 2017 and was allegedly being harassed and tortured for dowry by the entire family who were also named in the FIR filed on May 16.

A 45-year-old man, who had come to visit his wife with an intention to kill her for filing a cheating case against him and his family, was arrested from northeast Delhi's Maujpur area, police said today. Manish Kaul alias Varun Kaul alias Ashutosh Marwa alias Vishesh Dheeman alias Sanjeev Chaddha tried to fire at a policeman but the bullet got stuck in the pistol, they added. In March, a woman doctor had filed a cheating case against Kaul. She alleged that she came in contact with Kaul via a matrimonial website in 2015, when he introduced himself as a doctor, police said. She said she married Kaul the same year and her father gave gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh to her in-laws as dowry and spent nearly Rs 50 lakh on their wedding, they said. After the wedding, her in-laws started demanding more dowry. Her father-in-law, who had claimed that he retired from the Indian Air Force as a doctor, molested her twice, she said. A man who reportedly divorced his wife by uttering 'talaq' three times, a practice outlawed by the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, has been booked on charges of harassing the woman for dowry, the police said today. Women Cell police inspector Jyoti Sharma said as per a complaint by the 26-year-old victim, her husband Ateek Khan (30) called on her mobile phone yesterday and uttered "talaq" three times, and told her that their marriage stood dissolved. "The two had married on March 25 this year. Khan, his parents, brother and sister-in-law started harassing the complainant for dowry of Rs 5 lakh and a motorcycle," Sharma said. They later forced the victim to leave her marital house and return to her parents, the official said. Based on her complaint, the police today booked Khan, his parents, his elder brother and the latter's wife under sections 498-A (harassment for dowry), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, .

Woman commits suicide due to dowry harassment 7.5.2018 General News
A 35-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance allegedly due to harassment over demand for dowry in Muzaffarnagar's Shahpur town, police said today. Fehmida Begum took the extreme step yesterday after a dispute over the phone with her husband Javed, SHO, Kushalpal Singh said. The police registered a case against Javed and three others for abetment of suicide under section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide). According to the complaint lodged by the deceased's brother, Javed had been pressuring Begum to demand more dowry from his in-laws. Javed stayed in Odisha for his business-related work. The accused is absconding and further probe into the case is on, police said. A farmer was tied to a tree and shot at in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district allegedly over some money dispute, police said. The farmer, 45-year-old Lokesh Kumar was shot at yesterday in Kutub Garh village in Shamli. He was shifted to a hospital in serious condition, they said.
