Infosys, TCS join global tech-reskilling drive for 1 million workers 24.1.2018
Davos: Indian IT giants TCS and Infosys have joined a global drive for tech reskilling of one million workers in the first ever such IT industry initiative. The initiative, whose founding partners also include Accenture, CA Technologies, Cisco, Cognizant, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Pegasystems, PwC, Salesforce and SAP, aims to bring competitive training content together on one platform to serve the greater good. The initiative will be targeting 1 million people for training and resource opportunities on the World Economic Forum SkillSET portal by January 2021. The IT Industry Skills Initiative was launched here by the World Economic Forum to meet the global skills gap challenge and address job displacement arising from automation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Bicycle sharing: 'Directorate of Urban Land Transport' to issue permits 24.1.2018
Bengaluru: In view of the surge in population by 2031, the State Government had announced in the Budget 2017-18 to take up bicycle sharing scheme (PBS) in select clusters in Bengaluru. The docking stations identified by Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) will now act as parking hubs which multiple operators can use for operating their bicycles.  The directorate has now received the government order to administer permits to put PBS in place. According to the Special Officer, DULT N. Murali Krishna, "Due to the interest shown by the private players in investing in the capital and operations of running a fourth generation (dockless technology) system, we will be taking the role of facilitating and regulating the system when it matures.  The system will be technology neutral and the operators shall be allowed to bring in systems they feel is feasible for their operations." Vijayawada: Off late Vijayawada has turned into a major transit hub for cigarettes from foreign lands that make its way to Andhra Pradesh without paying any import duty and other taxes. In the last six months, the sleuths of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Vijayawada confiscated cigarette sticks in lakhs that had its origin in Myanmar and Indonesia. These cigarettes are bought by local traders who distribute it in various parts of the state. Local traders are so much involved in the trade that they are supplying packing material and other stuff, giving more dimensions to cigarette manufacturers in Myanmar. In a confiscation, the DRI local sleuths intercepted a truck that was carrying 8 tonnes of cigarettes with around 40 lakh cigarette sticks that were manufactured in Myanmar with the brand name "Paris" and in another instance, they confiscated 3 lakh cigarette sticks that were manufactured in Indonesia.   These Indonesian cigarettes are made with tobacco and clove which ...

KOZHIKODE: District administration"s "Zero waste Kozhikode" project is facing resistance from local people over the waste collecting centre coming in their vicinity. Though anger is simmering in many local self government (LSG) institutions, it has come out in the open in Vadakara and Maniyur.  In Vadakara, the 13-cent land near the old railway level cross at J.T road was identified for the waste collection but has not started function due to the stiff resistance. The residents of J.T road and adjacent Thazhe Angadi allege that it is adding fuel to the fire as already they are suffering due to the nearby abattoir and drainage water.  "The waste from the 47 wards of Vadakara municipality are being planned to be brought here.
