Zirakpur, January 1 Members of the Safai Karamchari Union protested against the Zirakpur Municipal Council here today. The Safai Karamcharis assembled on the premises of the Municipal Council building and stalled the garbage vehicles and raised slogans in support of their demands. The protest was held under the leadership of Mohali Safai Mazdoor Federation president, who alleged that despite repeated reminders to the Administration, their demands remain unfulfilled. Safai karamcharis said the dumping ground at Bishanpura village has reached its full capacity and even the residents of the village have refused to let the garbage-loaded rehries enter their houses, as these mounds of garbage have come up all across the village. They lamented that they have asked the Municipal Council to earmark another site for disposal, but all pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Tribune News Service Amritsar, December 28 The office of the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, has been utilising solid waste material to beautify its premises. MC Commissioner Sonali Giri has started using waste plastic bottles and planted saplings in it. Not only the MC Office, but officials have decided to start the practice in other government offices and public places also. The department is making these efforts for bringing the city on a good position in the Swachh Survekshan Survey-2018. The MC office has asked safai Karamcharis to collect used plastic bottles, especially 2-litre bottles of beverages. The department concerned has planted saplings and hanged these bottles in a symmetrical way. The office is trying to send a message of environment conservation with the initiative. Tribune News Service Panchkula, December 25 Keeping a track of safai karamcharis and supervisors has always been a tedious task in Panchkula. But now, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has found a solution. It is using technology to keep tabs on them. MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal said they were using Google camera pictures thorough WhatsApp groups to ensure their attendance. “ They have been asked to post pictures taken before and after the cleanliness work,” he said. “Sanitary inspectors will also present reports on a regular basis about the sanitation work,” he added. Jogpal further added that the Government had planned a solid waste management project for Panchkula and the Naraingarh cluster.
