Dilapidated roads get recarpeted in Abohar 16.6.2018 The Tribune
Raj Sadosh Abohar, June 15 Some of the local roads that have been potholed for over a decade are now finally being repaired or given a fresh layer of bitumen-stone metal carpeting in Abohar. For many, this has come as a surprise as the Municipal Council has no working President and the additional charge of Executive Officer is with an official who is posted somewhere near Bathinda. Pramil Kalani of the BJP resigned from the MC president’s post on March 10, 2018, citing harassment but the state government has not taken any decision in this matter. Kalani had initiated the road repair exercise two years back but could not get the work completed as Rs 2 crore released by the alliance government in the last decade was “insufficient”. These days, a lot of activity is visible outside the Nehru Park, Arya Samaj Mandir, Sethi Palace, Sunil Cinema, Maharana Pratap Market, Shanker Market, Major Surinder Chowk and the BSNL complex. District Youth Congress ex-president Sandeep Jakhar and district Congress president ...

Govt giving step-motherly treatment to Abohar: BJP 5.6.2018 The Tribune

Our Correspondent

Fazilka, June 4

BJP activists led by Abohar MLA Arun Narang took out a procession in the town bazaar to protest against lack of basic facilities in the town.

They burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in the main market. Narang while addressing the workers accused the state government of depriving Abohar residents of basic amenities like potable water, sewerage and electric supply.

He warned the Powercom officials to amend their attitude otherwise they would be forced to launch an agitation against them.

He urged the officials to expedite the Pradhan Mantri Amrut Yojna to improve the infrastructure ahead of rains.

BJP district president Vishnu Bhagwan Delu, state vice-president Dhanpat Siag, and general secretary Ravi Setia alleged that the state government was meting out step-motherly treatment to Abohar residents for the last more than a year.

Road gullies, sewer lines yet to be cleared in city 4.6.2018 The Tribune
Avneet Kaur Jalandhar, June 2 Even as the monsoon is around 25-30 days away, the Municipal Corporation (MC) of Jalandhar seems to have not even begun any preparation to meet the challenge to check rainwater accumulation on city roads. Sewerage lines have not been cleared of the accumulated silt and road gullies leading to the groundwater chambers lie covered with filth and cannot even be spotted along many roads. Even a short spell of pre-monsoon showers yesterday led to accumulation of water in low-lying areas of the city. Forget roads, even the newly constructed railway under bridge (RUB) at Chandan Nagar, Sodal, gets filled with rainwater if it rains continuously for two hours. Besides, water also seeps from its roof. And, same is the condition of the Damoria overbridge as water leakage from the bridge during rains has become a common sight. Despite repeated complaints regarding the overflowing sewerage water and the rainwater leakage, the civic authorities have turned a blind eye towards the problem, ...
