Creating awareness on proper disposal of plastic packaging 14.11.2019
Bengaluru: Flipkart, e-commerce marketplace, announced the rollout of a new initiative that focuses on creating awareness among consumers on the proper disposal of plastic packaging and make them active participants in its sustainability agenda. As part of this initiative, Flipkart is conducting a pilot project to collect plastic packaging back from consumers at select hubs across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad. The pilot aims at ensuring existing plastic packaging in the system is recycled and reused. Under the program, Flipkart will send out intimation to consumers asking them to voluntarily hand over plastic packaging to Flipkart wishmasters for its proper disposal, at the time of product delivery. The collected packets will then be sent to registered vendors to ensure it is disposed of responsibly to avoid ending up in landfills. Wishmasters have also been provided proper training in explaining the various facets of this initiative to consumers to ensure high ...

Love of cash hinders India's move to digital economy 14.11.2019
Satara: India"s dependency on cash may slow the country"s transition to digital payments despite large numbers of internet and mobile phone users. For many citizens living in rural areas, cash is still the bedrock of daily existence because of a lack of facilities. Sudhir Shinde, a farmer from Satara district in India"s western state of Maharashtra says he withdraws more money from his bank than required as the money vending machine in his village has not been operational for months. "If I need money urgently, I must make a 32 kilometre (20 mile) trip to Satara town, which is not always possible," said the 37-year-old sugarcane farmer Shinde, while buying fertilisers for his winter-sown crops. "I always keep money in hand assuming family emergencies like hospitalization or any other such urgent requirements". Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi backed a shock ruling in November 2016 to outlaw 86 per cent of cash in circulation to target undeclared "black ...

Nike says bids farewell to selling on Amazon 14.11.2019

Nike has decided to stop selling on Amazon, ending a pilot program that started in 2017.

The athletic brand said that it will no longer sell its sneakers and apparel on the e-commerce website, as it prepares to offer a more direct customer experience, Bloomberg notes.

Big brands have quit Amazon's platform due to sales of counterfeit products and unauthorised sellers which undermines the value of the original brands. However, Nike said it will continue to use Amazon Web Services to power its apps and web services.

Alibaba poised to launch record-breaking USD 13.4 bin Hong Kong share sale: sources 13.11.2019
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group is poised to launch a Hong Kong share sale expected to raise up to USD 13.4 billion as soon as Thursday, according to two sources with knowledge of the discussions. The deal - which would be the world"s biggest cross-border secondary listing - will be seen as a boost for Hong Kong, which has sunk into its first recession in a decade as more than five months of street protests and worries about the US-China trade war took their toll. While Alibaba executives are preparing for a Thursday launch, another source said the timing could slip depending on developments in the protests. All three sources declined to be identified because the information was not yet public. An Alibaba spokeswoman declined to comment on the company"s listing plans. It had been planning to sell the shares earlier this year but in August postponed the deal as the anti-government protests rocking the city since June became increasingly violent. The third source said Alibaba was ...
