Air India likely to offer laptops to business class passengers 8.1.2018 General News
In a bid to woo business class passengers on its international flights Air India is considering providing laptops to its premium travellers, its Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said today. The move is geared towards improving the airline's passenger load factor or seat occupancy in business class which often sees almost half the seats going empty. "In our long haul flights business class can be a money spinner for Air India. Our passenger load factor is only 50 per cent on these flights. We will try to see how to increase that, perhaps offer better quality of services. If our in- flight entertainment is not doing well, then we are thinking of alternatives. Laptops to business class passengers is a possibility," Kharola told reporters. He added that a decision is yet to be taken on whether these laptops would be offered to passengers only when the in-built video screens are not working or as an additional perk for premium travellers. Most Muslims favour ban on bad tradition of triple talaq:Naqvi 8.1.2018 deccanherald.com
Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said majority of Muslims were in the favour of banning the practice of triple talaq. "Triple talaq is un-Islamic and is a bad tradition. We want the empowerment of women. It (banning talaq-e-biddat) is not a Hindu or Muslim issue. We cannot leave out Muslim women in empowerment programmes being undertaken by our government," the minister told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. In recently-concluded winter session of Parliament, Lok Sabha passed a landmark bill making talaq-e-biddat or instant triple talaq a "cognisable and non-bailable offence". The bill recommends maximum three-year imprisonment for any Muslim man who gives instant divorce to his wife by uttering the word talaq three times in quick succession. The bill also provides for subsistence allowance to Muslim women and custody of minor children as may be determined by the magistrate. Though the bill was tabled in Rajya Sabha, it could not be passed as the Parliament was ...

The majority of hedge funds which came in through the participatory notes (p-notes) route have opted to register themselves directly as foreign portfolio investors (FPIs).According to latest Sebi data, the notional value of p-note exposure to derivatives has dipped 91 per cent to Rs 50.72 billion as of November 2017 from Rs 557.8 billion in January. In July last year, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had issued a circular banning p-note holders from taking naked exposure to the derivatives market. It said all existing positions would have to be squared off by the end of 2020 or date of maturity of the instrument, whichever was earlier.According to experts, hedge funds with reasonable India exposure had started the process of (direct) registration within a few weeks of the Sebi circular. While the majority of hedge funds are coming direct, a few have exited the market, given their insignificant dealings in Indian derivatives relative to their overall operations."With ..
